Stick around until the end to learn how to incorporate luxury elements like professional ranges and refrigerators while staying within your budget.

Plus, you’ll find out which problems to steer clear of along the way.

Let's get started.

How to Shop Smart (Mostly)

As we mentioned in our introductory package article, "How to Choose the Best Kitchen Appliance Package for $2,000-$10,000," it's smart to stick with the same brand to maximize your rebates.

Doing so can help you enjoy savings of 10-35% during promotional periods.

Rebates

By the way, many premium brands offer rebate programs.

Thermador has an accessible program where you can receive free appliances based on qualifying purchases.

Monogram offers up to $3,500 in credits based on your purchases.

Miele has 15% off on packages scattered throughout the year.

Pro Tip: Ensure your salesperson keeps you informed about new and expiring rebates. They are huge in this new recessionary world.

Promotional Holidays

The major promotional periods are Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, and Black Friday.

These periods typically last two to five weeks, so you have plenty of time.

Appliance Availability

Lastly, the supply chain crisis is over. You can now buy and receive almost any appliance within a week or two.

So, if you miss a promotional period, just wait for the next one. You don't have to rush your decisions like you did from 2020 to 2023.

Now let's look at each appliance and brand, keeping you within budget.

Appliance Options

Refrigerators

French-door-counter-depth-refrigerators-at-yale-appliance-in-hanover

Most people will choose a counter-depth French door refrigerator in this price range, costing between $2,000 and $4,000.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX French door refrigerator is the largest by far at 26.5 cubic feet. Bosch has their two-compressor refrigerator at $3,600, and Café Appliances offers colors and Keurig coffee dispensing at $3,500.

Professional (Built-In) Refrigerators

A professional refrigerator doesn't hold more but is more impressive with better materials and temperature controls.

You do have options, but this will eat away at your budget.

You can consider a professional 36-inch refrigerator from Sub-Zero or Thermador at $10,000-$12,000.

Monogram's 36-inch pro refrigeration is a bit less at $10,000. The 42-inch LG Studio side-by-side refrigerator is even less at $8,000.

With a professional refrigerator, you are looking at a $20,000 kitchen, depending on your other appliances.

Let's look at some easier decisions before making your big cooking decision.

Dishwashers

You will spend $749-$2,200 for a very good and quiet dishwasher like a Miele or the higher-end models from Bosch, LG, Café, and KitchenAid.

For example, the ultra-quiet Bosch 800 series dishwasher with CrystalDry drying is priced at $1,299.

Ventilation

Depending on how you cook, a better range hood is preferable to an over-the-range microwave. Over-the-range microwaves do not vent well.

I recommend looking at a 24-inch deep, 600 CFM hood and separating the microwave as a drawer in your island or into your cabinets.

However, a real hood and a microwave drawer will cost more than an over-the-range microwave by roughly $1,500.

You can spend more with a custom hood or less with a basic countertop microwave.

You can buy microwaves for $150, microwave drawers for $1,200, and convection built-ins for over $2,000.

If I were talking to you directly, I would ask how much you use a microwave.

Cooking Appliances

Your biggest kitchen design decision: Should you buy a range, or a cooktop and wall oven?

Induction-Cooktop-and-Wall-Oven-or-Induction-Range-

Well, it depends.

A range centralizes your cooktop and oven functions, saving space and giving your kitchen a clean, cohesive look.

On the other hand, a wall oven means no more bending down and offers more cooking options, especially with today's models.

This one decision will change the look and flow of your kitchen, so think it over carefully.

Once that's settled, the rest of the choices are pretty straightforward. You’ll be picking brands, models, and fitting appliances into cabinets.

Now, let’s talk about cost differences.

Generally, a cooktop and wall oven combo will set you back more than a range, but this varies.

A good gas or induction cooktop with a double wall oven can cost between $6,000 and $9,000.

On the flip side, high-end 30-inch induction or gas ranges, like the Café double-oven range, range from $2,500 to $4,000, with the Café model priced at $3,700.

You can also splurge on luxury items, such as a 30 or 36-inch professional range costing $4,000-$7,000, or a 36-inch induction range priced between $5,000 and $9,000.

So, it all boils down to whether you want a top-notch refrigerator paired with a basic gas or induction range, or a counter-depth refrigerator with a premium professional range, all within your $20,000 budget.

Budget Breakdown: How Much Will You Spend?

Well, that depends.

A high-end slide-in range with a counter-depth refrigerator, decent dishwasher, and hood will cost $9,000 to $12,000 at most.

Built-in refrigerators and professional ranges will significantly add to that.

A $20,000 budget is for a professional refrigerator and a 30-inch professional range or a regular counter-depth French door with a larger professional range, plus a dishwasher and hood.

So, you can have both, but not in the larger sizes.

Brands to Consider for Your Kitchen Appliance Package

Bosch and Thermador

Buy a 36-inch Thermador pro range, get a free dishwasher, and combine that with the Bosch refrigerator, a decent hood, and a microwave drawer.

Café Appliances

Get their double-oven induction range, counter-depth refrigerator, dishwasher, hood, and microwave. Be unique and pick a color like white or black.

LG Studio

LG-Studio-Kitchen-with-Combo-Wall-Oven

LG Studio features a wall oven with a speed oven on top and a steam-assist oven on the bottom. You can pair it with either an induction or gas cooktop.

You could choose their pro side-by-side refrigerator or the LG Counter Depth MAX, along with their dishwashers, which include true steam functionality.

Then pick a hood and microwave, and you'll still be under $20K.

Fisher & Paykel

Fisher-and-Paykel-kitchen-appliances-at-yale-appliane-in-hanover

I don't know why I included Fisher & Paykel, but builders have recently gravitated to this unique brand.

"Unique" is the word with a double-drawer dishwasher, a pro range, and an integrated refrigerator.

You can panel the integrated fridge, making it seamless with the cabinet. Add a decent hood, and you are well under $20,000.

You have plenty of other options as well in other brands.

But wait, you are far from done!

Problems When Buying a Kitchen Appliance Package for $10,000-$20,000

You will see a lot of good-looking appliances with great-sounding features under $20,000 from unknown brands.

Resist the temptation to buy these products.

And there are so many, well over 100 brands.

But often, the promise does not line up with performance.

We service what we sell and can only support 19 brands.

That should tell you something.

Kitchen Appliance Package Delivery and Installation

yale-appliance-delivery-truck-2023

Free delivery is not free.

The problems escalate with better appliances, such as delivering an 800-pound pro refrigerator.

So, you want to find out how much it will cost to have the appliances delivered to your house and to remove the old ones and the trash.

That includes steps into your home and basic connections.

Better yet, download this free worksheet to compare all the stores:

Kitchen Package Installation

The dishwasher, over-the-range microwave or hood, pro refrigerator, and gas stove will need additional installation.

That will be an additional cost as well.

With the lack of skilled labor, many general contractors are pushing back on installation.

You need to find out whether a subcontractor, your appliance store, the cabinet shop, or the general contractor is doing this work.

Bonus points if you find out they are insured.

Prepare to Buy Appliances (Don't Skip This Step)

Now, before you shop, spend a minute and prepare. This will take a minute but save you a ton of hassle later.

1. Plan Your Kitchen Layout First

kitchen-general-contractor

What will your kitchen be—built-in or freestanding? You cannot change your mind once the kitchen has been ordered, so spend time here.

2. Measure Everything

Accurate measurements of your kitchen space and the dimensions of the appliances are crucial.

Don't forget to consider doorways, hallways, and any other tight spaces the appliances must pass through.

Attention Brownstone owners: Measure. Better yet, have your appliance store send someone out to help.

3. Prioritize Your Needs

You have a lot to consider. Figure out what you value. Do you want a bigger fridge or a more commercial-looking range?

4. Read Reviews and Ratings

online-reviews-yale-appliance

Research online reviews and ratings for the appliances you are considering. Look for feedback on reliability, performance, and customer service.

YES, different stores and companies vary by region.

There are good and bad box stores, regional companies, and independents, and they all differ.

Check every product and store on Google, Yelp, and the BBB.

Google ranks should have no less than 4.6 ratings, and Yelp should have no less than 3.8 stars.

For the Better Business Bureau, almost every company has an A+ rating, especially if they are a member.

Look at the number of complaints and their resolution.

Key Takeaways

Well, you have options. That's good unless it paralyzes you.

  • First step: Decide between a built-in cooktop and wall oven.
  • Second step: Choose a professional range or a larger pro refrigerator.
  • Third step: Pick the brand with the best options for you.
  • Fourth step: Consider who will handle the installation and, heaven forbid, service.

You can do this and even enjoy your kitchen afterward.
