Samsung Chef Collection Vs. Bosch 800 Series Dishwashers (Reviews / Ratings / Prices)

Buying a dishwasher was easy years ago. If you wanted a premium dishwasher you bought a Miele, KitchenAid or Bosch.
It had the same cycles as the last time you bought a dishwasher. It probably was the same dishwasher just with a different look.
However, dishwashers are way different today.
You can buy dishwashers with specialized wash sprays for bottles and baked-on casserole dishes.
You can also buy dishwashers with better drying capabilities. In fact, they can even dry plastics (finally).
Bosch and Samsung both illustrate the most advanced dishwashers in completely opposite ways.
In this article, you will learn about all the new features of both brands and dishwashers in general.
We will also cover the reliability percentages of both brands based on real service calls. We logged over 100,000 service calls in less than three years.
Then you will learn the best time to buy either brand for the best price - even better then the guy you may know at an appliance store.
So, let's get started with what's new.
What's New In Dishwashers
New Wash Cycles
You are probably familiar with Pots/Pans, Normal, Crystal, Light. They have been available for years.
Cycles until recently control times and temperature of washing and drying.
However, there are new cycles to consider:
- Focused Cycles: Miele and other manufacturers will wash by item, rather than by general category. For example, Miele has a 3 hour and 24 minute cycle named stove grates and hood filters.
- Bottle Washes: On the top rack of KitchenAid and GE Café, you will find separate sprays to remove the residue from the bottom of your sport and baby bottles.
- Silverware Spray: GE Cafe has sprays underneath the silverware basket for more concentrated washes.
- Targeted Cycles: KitchenAid and Samsung have their StormWash and ProScrub features - more intense sprays to target baked-on dishes.
- Speed60 or Express Wash Cycles: Depending on the manufacturer, you can wash and dry a medium soiled load in 60 minutes instead of 2 hours plus. The best is the Thermador Star Sapphire dishwasher (made by Bosch) with a 20-minute wash and dry cycle.
New Drying Cycles
There are historically two methods of drying dishes.
Dishwashers either dry by condensation. It is a fancy term for the residual xxxheat from the washing plus an added product like JetDry or Finish.
The second method is with a heat element for increased temperature along with JetDry.
Many brands, like Bosch, Miele, and Samsung, have added the door opening at the end of the cycle in some of their models to release heat and steam.
Miele has a different method allowing outside air into the dishwasher so the heat is dissipated as water.
Quietness
Forty-four decibels is the minimum standard for quietness. You don’t need to spend more just for quietness, because it will not be that noticeable.
Spending tons of money just for a 37 DB dishwasher is not worth it.
So you have the basics of how a dishwasher washes, dries, and how quiet it should be. These two machines below have features beyond even the latest technology.
Let's jump in.
Bosch
Bosch home appliances is a division of BSH, Bosch and Siemens Home Appliance Group, based in Munich, Germany.
Even though Bosch is a German company, most Bosch dishwashers are manufactured in the United States since 1991.
Over the years Bosch earned high marks for producing a quiet, reliable, and reputable dishwasher.
Bosch is primarily a dishwasher company first producing over 50 models.

Bosch 800 Series Dishwasher Feature Highlights
Cycles: Heavy, Auto, Eco, Normal, Speed60, Rinse, Delay, Half Load, Sanitize
How it washes: Bosch still washes like a regular dishwasher. It is a good system with plenty of cycles, features, and options. But it does not have any targeted sprays like other brands like KitchenAid, Café or Samsung’s WaterWall and Zone Boost technology. Bosch has an arm that sprays water just below the third rack. It is, however, the best drying dishwasher by far.
CrystalDry: This dishwasher has a completely different drying cycle called, CrystalDry. It employs a volcanic element called zeolite to absorb moisture and increase heat in the dry cycle.
How it dries: Combined with AutoAir or the door opening at the end of cycle, CrystalDry will even dry plastics thoroughly (your plastics do not dry now because it is porous and not as dense as your flatware).
Samsung
You probably know Samsung from their phones and TVs. However, they are now the number 1 selling appliance brand in the US in a short time.
Their focus has been beautiful design, and advanced features for reasonable prices.

Samsung Chef Collection Dishwasher Feature Highlights
Samsung WaterWall: Samsung has new washing technology called the WaterWall. Instead of a bottom spinning arm like Bosch, the WaterWall is an arm moving front to back. Along with the top spray arm, the bottom provides more pressure with 6 jets.
Zone Boost: In addition to the WaterWall, there are addition smaller sprays to wash more baked on dishes. These concentrated sprays are located on the left hand part of the dishwasher.
How it Dries: Samsung is decent for drying. They have the added heat element along with the dishwasher popping open at the end of cycle to release steam and heat.

Samsung Chef Collection Vs Bosch 800 Series Dishwashers
This is an odd article. Both are almost noiseless. Both have more cycles than you will probably need and use. Both have third racks for silverware.
After that, both are dissimilar yet revolutionary.
Samsung has the WaterWall. It’s a brand new way of washing your dishes. Zone Boost is a novel cycle to scour baked on dishes.
Bosch has the best drying capability. Zeolite provides the dual purpose of absorbing moisture and increasing heat during the dry cycle.
Ironically, that is how you dry almost anything with heat and moisture absorption.
Samsung Vs. Bosch Reliability
Based on 34,687 service calls, following are reliability percentages.
Reliability 2019
- Samsung - 9.29%
- Bosch - 11.08%
Reliability 2018
- Samsung - 8.42%
- Bosch - 10.41%
Over a 2-year period, Bosch and Samsung are similar in overall percentage. However, Bosch is more popular at the higher end over $700 whereas Samsung is more popular at $500.
The other part of reliability is fixing problems when they do occur. In Boston, Bosch is better. We service what we sell so we are not dependent on manufacturers.
In some areas, Samsung is tough to find technicians to fix the product. Ask before you buy and find out later when your machine is broken.

Which Dishwasher Should You Buy?
You can buy either and be happy.
However, you probably do not complain about the dishwasher washing the dishes. Most dishwashers apply the correct amount of heat and water to wash a dish.
Drying has been a problem, especially plastics. Bosch will be the only dishwasher brand to thoroughly dry your dishes and plastics.
For that reason, Bosch may be the better dishwasher option for you.
When Is The Best Time To Buy A Samsung Or Bosch Dishwasher?
Buying appliances is like buying electronics. The best time to buy a dishwasher is around promotional holidays to save 10-35%.
Samsung is especially aggressive around Black Friday (now all of November into December).
Other holidays include Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, and Tax-Free Weekend.
Also, look at buying appliances in packages if you can. You can save an additional 10-15% on both brands with package rebates.
Buying a package (if needed) on a holiday is the best way to buy appliances at the best prices.
