Compact laundry has been a staple in urban areas like Boston due to its small profile. City condos don't normally have large spaces or basements for full size laundry. Increasingly, however, compact laundry has become more popular in the suburbs as more people moving the laundry from the basement to the top floors for convenience.
Compact laundry has been traditionally dominated by European manufacturers of varying types like Bosch and Miele from a quality perspective. Then there are less expensive and more tempermental (I am being kind) brands like Malber, Eurotech and Avanti.
Europeans specialize in this type of product, because they live in smaller dwellings. They also pay more for utilities like gas and electricity, and compact laundry is incredibly efficient. About 5 years ago, Whirlpool entered this market and along with Bosch is the biggest name in this segment.
Bosch Compact Laundry
Bosch is a huge company selling tools, undersea cables, and appliances among hundreds of other products and services. Bosch is based in Europe, but most of the appliances are manufactured in the US with compact laundry being the exception. Compact laundry is a big part of their overall worldwide sales. Their condensor or ventless dryer has become widely sold as people with no ability to vent can now buy laundry.
Whirlpool Compact Laundry
Whirlpool is the largest U.S. appliance only manufacturer with their most popular products being laundry and refrigerators. Like Bosch, Whirlpool produces most of their appliances in the U.S. with the exception again being compact laundry. As stated, compact laundry is a small part of Whirlpools overall offering/

If you read through all the specs, it is very hard to decide the better machine. They are both 34 High* 24 wide* 24 deep and designed to be stacked or built into popular cabinets. Cycles will be similar.
There really is only one difference.
Bosch manufactures their compact laundry in Europe whereas Whirlpool will outsource to Eurotech. So from a design, manufacturing and quality perspective, Bosch is the better product.
