Traditional Style Living Room Lighting Fixtures (Reviews/Ratings/Prices)

You may have grown up in a home that was very comforting, welcoming and what is considered classic. Traditional style usually has everything matching and is very consistent. The rooms are somewhat casual and predictable.

Lamps with silk shades, wall sconces, and floor lamps might all be used. Shades would be fairly plain, in ivory or white.

Traditional lighting has evolved from your Mother's and Grandmother's style. Gone are the floral prints like Abigail Adams and shiny polished brass. Today, most traditional has touches of transitional and even contemporary elements.

Greenwich Shingle Style

Irons, muted brass and darker finishes highlight today’s traditional interiors. We will show you a few different lights and how to size the light properly.

Pay attention to size. Fixtures should be proportional to the room at least in theory (you can do what you want). A good rule of thumb is to take the dimensions of your room in feet and add them together. The number of feet in the sum is how many inches your chandelier should be.

Example: For a 12'x10' room, the light fixture should be at least 22 inches.

Final Thoughts

If you think stuffy or boring when you think of traditional it’s time to revisit your opinion. To me traditional is timeless, classic and can blend with many styles.

Decorative lighting is your chance to personalize your space. If you are thinking traditional lighting, you have a wide array of finishes to utilize and stay true to the style.
