What is a Drop-In Range? (Reviews/Ratings)

by Tam Nguyen

Appliances can be confusing, because the terminology is interchanged.

For example, cooktops and slide-in ranges have been incorrectly called drop-in ranges.

A drop-in range is quite simply a range without a bottom drawer.

It's mounted on a base cabinet, rather than seated on the floor. Drop-in's are mostly sold as replacement units in older kitchens.

Most Powerful Freestanding Gas Ranges (Reviews/Ratings/Prices)

by Jessica Petrino

A freestanding range is owned by 90 percent of the American range buying population. Many freestanding ranges have a backguard containing the cooktop and oven controls.

This article will address the most powerful free standing gas ranges in the appliance industry. The power of gas ranges is measured in British thermal units, more commonly referred to as BTUs. This unit measures the amount of heat for the surface burners.

Ten years ago, the average burner power was 10,000 to 12,000 BTUs on the high end, but now they are far stronger. You do not need a professional range for high output burners anymore.

Slide-In vs. Freestanding

This is a frequently asked question. Slide-ins have the controls on the front. They also sit on top of the countertops to eliminate seams, so liquid, grease and food cannot drip between the range and the cabinet. Freestanding is less pricey for the similar features.

How to Buy a 30 Inch Gas Freestanding Stove/Range (Features)

by Jessica Petrino

A free standing gas range is a gas range owned by 90% of the American population. The majority of free standing gas ranges are 30’’ wide, although some manufacturers produce smaller 20" and 24" models for compact living spaces. Gas ranges are also available in 36 and 48 inch sizes.

Among many consumers gas is a preferred cooking method for a number of reasons. Gas cooking is more efficient than electric cooking, meaning that your food will heat up faster and more evenly without losing as much residual heat.

Gas burners are now almost 50% more powerful than 10 years ago and feature many more configurations. If you live in Boston, gas is about 65% of all purchased units.

Electrolux vs Maytag Induction Freestanding Ranges (Reviews/Ratings)

by Danny Nguyen

Induction, or magnetic heat technology, is becoming a more popular option for a lot of home owners. For the longest time, gas was always the preferred method for cooking, because of its more precise temperature management, compared to traditional electric. Induction is more energy efficient at 90% than gas at 60% or electric at 55%. It is also safer with less residual heat, because the magnets of the burners heat the metal in the pan. The pan is actually cooking the food or the inverse of how gas and electric actually work.
