Is The Café Appliances CGS750P4MW2 Gas Range Any Good?

The Café Appliances CGS750P4MW2 is a unique range with plenty of exclusive features.

It's Café Appliances' best range.

In this article, you will learn about their best specs from the cooktop, oven, overall aesthetic, and reliability based on real service data.

We will also compare the Café against Samsung's double oven gas range featuring Flex Duo and other ranges from Jenn-Air and Thermador.

By the end of this article, you will know whether the Café Appliances CGS750P4MW2 is a good range for you and your family.

Let's begin.

Is The Café Appliances CGS750P4MW2 Gas Range Any Good?

Burners

I remember when four burners seemed like it was enough. Then 15 years ago, five burners became popular on the high-end ranges with a griddle in the middle.

Café is the first with six burners, and although more is usually good, you will likely not fit bigger pots on all 6.

Still, you probably have more burners than necessary.

The burners vary from an extremely hot 21,000 to a simmer burner of 5,000. You have another power burner at 15,000 and then some in the middle at 12 and 2 at 9500.

This is a good arrangement, but you don't have all high output like a Thermador or Jenn-Air pro range.

Ovens

The Maytag "Gemini" oven first popularized double ovens. The Gemini failed because it had the burner controls on the cooktop for a smaller cooking area.

It was also freestanding with the oven controls on the back. Typically, people want slide-ins, or front control ranges for better cooking products.

Pro ranges are all front controls, for example.

The Café range has a double oven with a larger lower oven. You have the most cubic footage this way. Both ovens are self-cleaning.

However, the larger oven at the bottom means you will be bending for larger items like your meats and Christmas turkey.

The regular Jenn-Air and KitchenAid offer the smaller oven at the bottom. The Café's smaller oven is larger, more versatile, and self-cleaning, but the others are worth considering.

The Samsung Flex Duo is interesting because its rack slides out between the ovens to have two ovens or one larger oven with storage below.

Both ovens are convection as well versus just the bottom of the Café.

However, the Flex Duo is limited in temperature control when cooking with both ovens according to their owners manual.

Cafes' ovens are exclusive and do not have Samsung' limitations.

Reliability

Gas Range Reliability For June 2019-July 2020

Service Qty Shipped Qty Service Ratio
Bosch Benchmark 8 14 57.14%
BlueStar 9 18 50.00%
JennAir 83 263 31.56%
LG  3 12 25.00%
Blomberg 3 12 25.00%
KitchenAid 48 231 20.78%
Fisher & Paykel 3 19 15.79%
Bosch  33 241 13.69%
Café Appliances 9 81 11.11%
GE Profile 17 177 9.60%
Beko  1 11 9.09%
Samsung 76 1199 6.34%
Whirlpool 11 239 4.60%
GE 0 32 0.00%
Grand Total 304 2549 11.92%

The Café Appliances reliability has been decent at 11.11%.

It's pretty good to consider its a double oven with six burners versus one oven and four burners of the other brands on this list.

Although we service what we sell in Boston, GE has a service department covering the US, which could be advantageous over the others.

Style

Buying an appliance is almost like buying a car in the 1920s. Your choices then were black and black. You walk into an appliance store, and your choice is stainless and more stainless.

Café has a huge advantage for style because you have real alternatives.

There is their mirrored Modernist look. You have their popular white collection as well, and there is Matte black for another distinctive look.

You also have three different handle options with stainless, brass, and bronze. So even if you opt for stainless, you can add different hardware like copper or brass.

Wi-Fi

The whole Café line is Wi-Fi enabled so you can connect to your range remotely through an app. You can turn the oven on and off and adjust the temperature from your phone. It can also answer to Alexa, Google Assistant, and other apps.

It can even answer Digiorno. So for you frozen pizza lovers, this range has you covered.

Price

At $3,239 to $3,600, Café is an expensive gas range, albeit with features. Your shopping list should include:

Other double ovens like Samsung and Jenn-Air are $1,000 less with similar output but lack the size, functionality of the Café.

Professional Ranges

You can buy a professional(pro) range from Thermador and Jenn-Air for a little more when you factor in their free dishwasher promotion.

Pro ranges offer more power per burner. Thermador has lower simmer burners, while JennAir offers the most robust Wi-Fi experience.

The Café offers six burners, two ovens, and self-cleaning in both ranges.

None of the other ranges mentioned in this article offer style customization.

Should You Buy The Café Appliances CGS750P4MW2?

First, the Café is different both in style and feature set. Its ability to customize is unlike any appliance in this price range.

However, it is more expensive than other double ovens and less powerful than similarly priced pro ranges.

So although it is worthwhile, you have to assess what you want your new range to do.

Do you need double ovens and six-burner functionality?

Either way, the Café is worth your consideration as it is unique in appearance and function.
