How To Buy a Gas Slide-In Stove (Reviews/Ratings/Prices)

October 10th, 2013 | 4 min. read

A slide-in range is a 30’’ range that is designed to be built into your counter tops. The edges of the range are designed to overlap your countertops to create a built-in look. Controls for the oven and cooktop are located on the front of a slide-in range.

Have a look at this really short video for an explanation.

I think of this range style as a stylish middle ground between the freestanding gas ranges and the professional models. Many slide-in ranges now have features consistent with the professional models with the exception of the commercial appearance. In many cases, a slide-in range will have hotter burners than the professional range. Slide-in ranges also look great with custom tiling or backsplash behind the appliance, because there is no backguard like a freestanding range.

Backsplashes and slide-ins(most pro ranges are also slide-in ranges)....looks much better with the backguard

How To Buy A Gas Slide-In Range

Burners

The majority of slide-in ranges have four burners. Some have 5 burners. If you regularly use large pans, a four burner cooktop will be able to accommodate your cooking style better than a five burner construction especially with large pots.  The spacing is somewhat tight in a 5 burner configuration

Slide-in ranges generally have sealed burners. A sealed burner does not allow crumbs and food particles to fall through the range to ensure easy cleanup of your cooking surface. BTU outputs can vary slightly between the units.

Frigidaire FPGS3085KF - $1,799

This Frigidaire range has a four burner configuration. With four burners you can fit multiple large pans on the range. It has a stacked burner with a BTU output range of 600 BTU to 17,000 BTU. This range also has a convection oven (gas or electric for $1949.99), self-cleaning and a warming drawer. Frigidaire makes good quality products at an affordable price.

Some slide-in ranges have a central fifth burner. A fifth burner is great if you like to cook with several smaller pans at the same time.

Electrolux EW30GS75KS - $2,709

This Electrolux range has five burners. It has a stacked burner with a BTU output range of 450 BTU to 18,000 BTU, a really wide range for a burner. It also has a convection oven (gas or electric for $2809.99) with convection conversion to take the guesswork out of convection. This range has a self-cleaning oven and a second oven that can cook food as well as keep meals warm until you are ready to eat.

Electrolux produces appliances with a modern appearance and advanced technological features for an affordable luxury price.

Warming Drawers

Most slide-in ranges have a warming drawer under the main oven. A warming drawer will keep your meals warm until you are ready to serve. I use my warming drawer on a daily basis, especially if am cooking multiple dishes at the same time. I can warm the rice as the meat is still cooking. Warming drawers are great for people who like to entertain or for busy families.

They can also refresh leftovers without dehydrating the food. Separate just warming drawers are $800-1500 on average.

Oven

Some slide-in ranges have all gas ovens. These ovens are known to be good for broiling. With a slide-in model you can expect to find a convection oven, warming drawer, and a variety of technological features not available in most freestanding ranges.

Although slide-in gas ranges have a gas cooktop, they can also feature an electric oven. Dual fuel ranges provide the power and instant simmer of gas with the better baking of electric convection.

Bosch HDI7282U - $2,489.99

This range has four burners with a wide range from a power burner at 16,000 BTU to a 600 BTU simmer. With any dual fuel, you need a 220V power outlet behind the range to power the electric oven. It has true European convection to ensure precise temperature control and even heat throughout the oven.

This oven has glide racks to easily move items in and out of the oven. This range also has a warming drawer.
