When considering how to choose the best crystal light fixtures for your foyer entry area you have a little information to go over.
The questions you should ask when designing any area of your home are:
- “what type of fixture will fit?”
- “what size should it be?”
- “does it have to match all my other lights in the house?”
When selecting a light fixture one measurement that people often forget to have is the ceiling height. In order for the fixture to look right it has to be the correct size.
No matter how expensive the light may be if it is too small it can look “cheap”.
There are a few basics guidelines to help with knowing what to look for and how to measure. The entry foyer light is the first fixture that will make an impression on your guests.
This is a fixture that you have to really love.
The higher the ceiling, the taller the chandelier. A standard 8 foot ceiling can accommodate a chandelier that is 20-24 inches in height.
To obtain the suggested diameter of the chandelier for that room, it’s simple math. Add the height and the width of the room space together and treat that sum as inches.
For example, if the room is 20 ft by 18 ft, the sum is 38. Therefore the approximate diameter of the chandelier should be 38 inches.
- For one floor foyers, the bottom of the chandelier should be about 7 feet from the floor.
- For two story foyers, if there is a window above the front door, center the chandelier so it can be seen from the outside.
- If your foyer is extra large you may want to add accompanying sconces.
If you cannot hang a crystal chandelier in your foyer there are several other styles that can look just as formal and elegant. Crystal chandeliers come in many sizes and styles from Victorian to very contemporary.
Companies like Schonbek Lighting, Elegant Lighting and Crystorama Lighting specialize in crystal fixtures. Companies like Visual Comfort and Corbett Lighting include some crystal chandeliers and fixtures as well.
Crystal Semi-Flush Lights
Crystal semi flush fixtures often work out nice for entry foyers with a lower ceiling. As with flush mount crystal ceiling fixtures they offer many sizes and finishes to coordinate with your decor.
The semi flush allows light to be emitted upward and reflect light off the ceiling and making the entire space be bigger and brighter. Semi-flush fixtures are great for ceilings that are 8 feet – 8 ½ feet tall.
Crystorama offers a whole series of flush mounted and semi flush mounted crystal fixtures for lower ceilings and hallways to coordinate with crystal foyer lights.
They come in a variety of sizes and metal finishes as well. Flush mounts work out great on lower ceilings such as 7 ½ feet to 8 feet tall.
