Affordable does not mean cheap or junk. Samsung, LG, and GE are all respected manufacturers.
You can buy convection ranges, counter depth refrigerators and slide-in ranges under $5,000.
So I will show you the best 5 packages, reliability numbers based on 34,687 service calls and then a section of various appliance upgrades by product type.
At the end of this article, you will have a definite sense of the brand and products.
One Word Of Caution...
First, we sell the least amount of brands than any other store on the internet.
We have plenty of brands, but not every single one.
We service what we sell and can only afford to sell what is reliable.
Secondly, these are the most popular packages by history. You can create your own if you like a particular product or brand.
Best Affordable Kitchen Appliance Packages
Samsung Top Mount Package
Electric - $1,919 | Gas - $2,089
This is a great package if you are a builder or just starting out. You have an 18 cubic foot top mount, free standing range, base dishwasher and over the range microwave.
The refrigerator can fit in a 30-inch cabinet, so it's perfect for smaller kitchens without being tiny and nonfunctional.
Samsung Side-by-Side Package
Electric -$2,419 | Gas - $2,4192 after rebates
Samsung products are more stylish than any other competitive brand at this price level.
This package features a 25 cubic foot side by side refrigerator, convection (fan forced heat for more even cooking) range, an integrated dishwasher, and over-the-range microwave.
Samsung French Door Counter Depth/Slide-In Package
Electric - $3,635 | Gas - $4,035
If you want to improve the overall look of your kitchen affordably, then consider a slide-in stove and French door refrigerator.
You don’t see the sides of the refrigerator, because it lines up with the cabinets for a much better look.
Slide-in ranges allow you to see your backsplash without the back guard.
This package has both along with an over-the-range microwave and upgraded dishwasher.
LG Counter Depth/Slide-in Range Package
Gas - $3,829
Very similar to Samsung. LG has pure convection (blown in from the rear) on their gas ranges. The refrigerator is counter depth as well
GE Profile Full Depth Package
Electric - $4,139 | Gas - $4,489
How about a big refrigerator. This one is 28 cubic feet. GE is known for cooking and refrigeration, but there were also first on over the range microwaves as well.
We just started with GE after a 6-year hiatus
Appliance Upgrades and What They Really Mean
Following are a few upgrades available and what they mean (I have a larger section in the Best Packages article)
Refrigerators
Top Mount, Side-By-Side, French Door, Counter Depth
Top Mount: You see top mounts on the less expensive packages with freezer on the top and refrigerator on the bottom.

There is nothing wrong with a top mount, BTW, except you do stoop for fruits and veggies. They are also available only in the 18 and 21 cubic foot styles.
Side-By-Side: You have organized storage in a side-by-side, but less lateral storage for trays and platters.

French Door: Side-by-Side top with a pull out drawer. It is the most popular because you do have lateral storage.

Counter Depth: These refrigerators do not protrude past the cabinet, so you do not see the textured side. You do pay more for less cubic feet, but it looks better in your kitchen.
Ranges
Slide-In, Freestanding, Induction
Slide-In vs. Freestanding: Freestanding ranges have backguards. Slide-ins do not, so you can see your backsplashes without looking at range controls (in my opinion, slide-ins and counter depths are the least expensive way to improve the look of your kitchen without remodeling).
Convection Fans: Fan-forced heat for a more even temperature, so you bake better
Twin Convection
Induction Ranges (electric): Magnetic heat for speed to boil and simmer. Induction is also safer and requires less venting.

Microwaves
These packages all include an over the range microwave with a vent. The only tangible upgrade is the convection microwave at an additional cost
Convection/Microwave: Ability to cook like an oven, microwave or both at one time for faster cooking without losing texture.
Dishwashers
Quiet: Any level under 44 DB is quiet, and 42 would be virtually noiseless.
3rd racks: A place for silverware over the cups.
Integrated: Controls on top
Samsung Dishwasher Integrated Controls
Concentrated Sprays: Samsung and GE have more concentrated sprays to power out tough sprays in their better dishwashers.
Samsung StormWash
GE Spray Arm

In terms of overall reliability for above builder grade appliances (Whirlpool, Premier are basic appliances sold on jobs), LG and Samsung are amongst the most reliable you can buy
However, some stores do not fix Samsung/LG and finding service can be a challenge in some areas. Check service before you buy
