DCS and Fisher Paykel Drawer Dishwashers (Reviews/Ratings/Prices/Problems)

I remember seeing the first dishdrawer in 1997 at a trade show. It had a cool interface complete with smiley face prompts. It was quiet and water efficient, and it was different. A drawer dishwasher actually makes sense. There is less stooping. You can also wash small loads in one drawer.

Initially, people purchased drawers for the wow factor as much as the design and features. 10 years later, drawers are not the hot sellers anymore even if they are still different than a normal dishwasher.

Fisher Paykel & DCS

Fisher Paykel is a based in Australia/New Zealand. Fisher & Paykel marketed household appliances from washers to ranges, but are known best for their dishwasher. In 2004, they acquired DCS, a professional range company and BBQ company for 33 million. I thought it was cheap at the time, but it turned out to be very expensive with the market collapse in 2007.

First, DCS and Fisher Paykel is the same dishwasher just with different handles. I still like this dishwasher as a concept. However, the DishDrawer needs to be streamlined for better reliability, especially the actuator, which seals against leaks. We sell them because we have 19 people on staff who know how to diagnose and rectify the issues.

Unfortunately, Fisher Paykel has been struggling since 2007 with the debt from DCS, so they haven't been able to address these concerns. Last week, they were targeted for acquisition by Haier, a giant Chinese manufacturer.
