Beko vs. GE Profile Kitchen Appliance Packages

It's not easy buying appliances for your whole kitchen.

You shop for one appliance and see all the out-of-stock items. For four appliances, your chances of success are even worse.

In this article, you will learn about two companies with available appliance packages. Beko and Profile are different, but both have weathered the COVID-19 pandemic better than their immediate competition.

By the way, we will be publishing more about available packages in the coming weeks. If you are interested, subscribe to learn more. The articles will show up in your email the next day after publishing (without promotions).

Let's begin.

Beko

This Turkish company was fortunate enough to start importing while other companies had supply chain issues. They are also in fewer stores to focus their supply better.

You may not have heard of Beko, but they produce dishwashers for Viking and appliances under the Blomberg name. A surprising number of appliance companies produce appliances in Turkey.

They have many unique features, from ion generators to remove odors from your appliances to special lighting in their refrigerators to extend the freshness of your produce by photosynthesis. Amongst their best features, you can buy available Beko appliances and be assured of delivery.

GE Profile

Many years ago, GE rebranded its best appliances under the Profile name. Haier, the Chinese appliance conglomerate, now owns GE. Haier, like Beko, is appliance only and incredibly innovative, especially with Wi-Fi-enabled appliances.

In a few short years, they have completely changed almost all the products in the GE portfolio. However, most GE appliances are still manufactured in the US.

Let's compare their packages by product.

Refrigerators

Beko-vs.-GE-Profile-Refrigerators-(1)Beko Refrigerator BFFD3624XSS ($2,679) | GE Profile Refrigerator PYE22KYNFS ($3,329)

What They Have in Common

Counter-Depth: Both Beko and Profile are counter depth so that the chassis or frame won't protrude from the cabinet.

Twin Evaporator: Both have two evaporators to keep the warmer, humid air of the refrigerator from the drier, colder freezer. Your food, especially in the freezer, should taste better and have less frost build-up from the cycled refrigerator air.

Key Differences

Size: Beko is 19.9 cubic feet, while the Profile is 22.1 cubic feet.

How They Keep Food Fresh: Both have twin evaporators. GE has temperature-controlled crispers as well. Beko may have the best food preservation system with EverFresh+ and Blue Light technology. Blue lighting emulates sunlight, so fruits and vegetables continue their photosynthesis.

You also have airflow directly to the crisper for better temperature management. Beko's freestanding refrigerator won our "Project Produce" contest for maintaining fruit and vegetables the longest aside from Sub-Zero's professional refrigerator.

Dispenser: Both have ice makers and water dispensers, but Profile offers the dispenser outside the refrigerator.

IonGuard: Beko has a negative ion generator sending negative ions to counteract the positive ions of odors for a fresher-smelling refrigerator.

Ice Maker: Beko produces the most at 11 pounds while the Profile is 3.9 pounds. You can install a separate ice maker in the Profile as well.

Smart Technology: Through GE's SmartHQ platform, Profile's refrigerator will send you notifications when the door is open or when the filter needs to be changed. They are also testing remote service diagnostics where the refrigerator will diagnose the problem and automatically send the part to be fixed.

Reliability

Counter-Depth Refrigerator Reliability from December 2020 to October 2021

The following service rates are based on a minimum of 90 refrigerators sold and a total sample of over 2500 products sold.

  Service Rate
LG 4.5%
Samsung 8.4%
GE Profile 10.2%
Café Appliances 12.6%
Bosch 14.9%
JennAir 15.8%
GE Appliances 16.5%
KitchenAid 17.0%
Beko  32.6%
Grand Total 15.5%

GE Profile is more reliable as Beko's service rate was fairly high. However, many of their issues were the refrigerator handles and not the refrigerator itself. Beko's service rate will most likely will be significantly better for 2023.

Ranges

Beko-vs-GE-Profile-RangesBeko Gas SLGR30530SS ($2,269)| Profile Gas Range PGS930YPFS ($2,098)

What They Have in Common

Capacity: The stove interior capacity is the same at 5.7 cubic feet for the Beko compared to 5.6 cu. ft. for the Profile gas range.

Front Control: Both are front control so that you will see your backsplash.

Convection: Both are convection and deliver even temperatures through fan-forced heat.

Key Differences

Burner Output: Profile's output is better at 21,000 BTU (British Thermal Units), 15,000 BTU, two 9,500 BTU, and 5,000 BTU burners. Beko only has one high output burner at 18,000 BTU, along with 12,500 BTU, 10,000 BTU, 8,000 BTU, and 4,000 BTU.

Smart Technology: Smart functions should be better at cooking with recipe integrations, but the technology is not there yet. However, GE added a Turkey mode before Thanksgiving last year, complete with a "Gobble, Gobble" end-of-cycle signal. In the future, smart appliances are promising for cooking. Think about telling Alexa to cook lasagna and have the stove set the temperature and timing for you.

Reliability

Gas Range Reliability from December 2020 to October 2021

The following service rates are based on a minimum of 40 ranges sold and a total sample of over 1000 ranges.

  Service Rate
Whirlpool 2.5%
GE Appliances 4.4%
LG Electronics 4.4%
Samsung 4.5%
GE Profile 7.6%
KitchenAid 8.9%
Beko Appliance 12.9%
JennAir 15.4%
Fisher & Paykel 17.7%
Grand Total 6.4%

Profile is a bit better, but Beko only markets one expensive range compared to Profile's less expensive line of ranges.

Dishwashers

Beko-vs-GE-Profile-dishwashersBeko Dishwasher DDT39432XIH ($999)| Profile Dishwasher PDP755SYRFS ($1,124)

Both dishwashers have compelling, unique features. You should consider both, especially with Bosch and Miele having so many issues with availability.

What They Have in Common

Cycles: Both have plenty of dishwasher cycles.

Quietness: Both exceed the minimum quietness standard of 44 decibels (dB). Beko is the quietest at 39 dB, while the Profile is 42 dB. However, Profile is the only dishwasher achieving that level with a grinder. Every other company such as KitchenAid, Miele, Bosch, and Beko, have a removable filter.

Racks: Both have adjustable top racks and a third rack as well.

Smart Technology: Both have smart functionality. Interestingly enough, Beko has it in their dishwasher, but not the refrigerator or stove.

Key Differences

AquaIntense: Beko adds more water pressure to the bottom rack for more scouring power.

AquaFlex: Beko has an additional spray arm as well. With AquaIntense, you clean even the most caked-on dishes and pans.

Moisture and Odor Removal: Profile coats the handle and the tops of the basket with Microban to kill 99% of the germs.

UltraFresh: UltraFresh is fan-reducing moisture to eliminate odors in your dishwasher offered in Profile only.

Ion Generator: Beko pulses ions to remove the positive ions of odors.

Bottle and Silverware Wash: The Profile has four bottle washes designed to spray the residue out of the bottom of your sports or baby bottles. Profile has 40 dedicated sprays for the silverware basket and baked-on food.

Drying: Beko uses condensation drying, an industry term, for using residual heat from the wash, JetDry, and more time to dry your dishes. Profile has a fan to draw the steamy air out of the dishwasher to effectively dry plastics.

This type of drying is opposite from Miele and KitchenAid. They let air into the dishwasher, where the warmer air is dissipated as water by the colder, drier air.

Reliability

Dishwasher Reliability December 2020 to October 2021

The following service rates are based on a minimum of 90 units sold and a total sample of over 8,000 pieces.

  Service Rates
LG 1.7%

Whirlpool 4.1%
JennAir 5.3%
KitchenAid 5.5%
Miele 8.9%
Fisher & Paykel 9.9%
Bosch 10.1%
Beko 10.3%
Café Appliances 10.7%
GE Profile 12.2%
Asko 12.5%
Samsung 18.5%
Grand Total  12.8%

Both GE Profile and Beko have similar service rates with a 1.9% difference. It's not statistically significant, but both are under the average while marketing more expensive dishwashers.

Over-the-Range Microwaves

Beko-vs-GE-Profile-OTR-MicrowavesBeko OTR Microwave MWOTR30102SS ($)| GE Profile OTR Microwave PVM9179SKSS  ($620)

Over-the-range microwaves are extremely similar. Then again, most over-the-range microwaves are.

In both packages, the OTR (over-the-range) microwaves are a combination with convection allowing you to cook as a microwave, convection, or a combination of both.  Most people like the convection part as a second smaller oven.

However, both vents are 300 CFM (Cubic Feet Per Minute) with only about 15.6 inches in depth. The exhaust will be far less than optimal for cooking, especially with the power burners at the front of the range at about 24 inches in depth.

You may want to consider a better hood than a built-in microwave.

Service

GE Profile has a large service network in the U.S. and is probably the best amongst the major brands. While Beko doesn't have service, you will only find the brand in servicing dealers.

Key Takeaways

Both are good and perhaps especially good because they are available.

Profile is a broader line with hundreds of selections. They have some unique products and the best smart technology.

For now, Beko is limited to only one stove, a few refrigerators, and dishwashers. However, for under $7,000, Beko is compelling, especially the refrigerator and dishwasher features.

So, it's a good comparison depending on what you will value and use.
