Best Wall Ovens for 2024

Best Luxury Double Wall Oven: Gaggenau BX480612

Gaggenau makes the best-engineered wall oven. In fact, Gaggenau is the most reliable wall oven brand for 2024.

Gaggenau was founded in the 19th century and is French made but owned by the German BSH company.

Gaggenau-Kitchen-at-Yale-Appliance-in-Boston-AIS-2023

There are 17 cooking modes for every type of cooking or baking method.

So if you want to proof, make pizza, or use a rotisserie, then Gaggenau is a good consideration.

You also have tremendous control with Gaggenau.

Gaggenau-400-Series-Wall-Oven-Controls

Their industrial design is different from any other oven on the market.

The door is a side swing, so you don't have to lift your food over a door, and you have a rotisserie spit in the lower oven.

As of now, it doesn't have many modern features like steam assist or guided cooking.

But if you like to try out new cooking methods or are a skilled chef, then Gaggenau is a good consideration.

Features:

  • Unique, Stainless steel-backed full glass door
  • 17 Heating methods, with a 3-point core temperature probe
  • Side-opening doors, swing open up to 180 degrees
  • Rotary knob and TFT touch display operation
  • Baking stone outlet for creating your own best pizza in town
  • Rotisserie spit in the lower oven

Best Convection System: Wolf DO3050PM/S/P, DO30CM/S, and DO3050TM/S/T

The Wolf M-Series offers three distinctive styles: professional, contemporary, and transitional.

wolf-wall-ovens-at-yale-appliance-in-hanover

They have the most advanced convection technology that uses blowers from the corners of the oven instead of fans, called VertiCross Convection.

The blowers are more powerful than fans and with more even heat distribution, top-to-bottom and side-to-side, while maximizing usable space in your oven.

Wolf Gourmet

The Wolf Gourmet feature offers a menu with dozens of presets to cook various foods automatically.

You can select the type of food, the weight, and how you want it cooked.

The oven will figure out the time and temperature. It will even prompt you for the ideal rack position.

Features:

  • Large oven capacity of 5.1 cubic feet
  • Ten cooking modes for predictably delicious results
  • Dual VertiCross convection for consistent heat across all racks
  • Gourmet feature for foolproof meals
  • Standard or flush inset installation
  • Color touchscreen for easy navigation
  • Wi-Fi Connectivity

Best Oven with Steam Assist: Miele H 7780 BP2 CTS

Miele has a distinctive modern look.

They offer two fans for twin convection to keep an even temperature.

MasterChef

Their MasterChef controls are like the Wolf Gourmet guided cooking system.

You pick the food and weight, and the oven calculates your time and temperature.

However, Miele has a larger library of recipes and baking options.

Moisture Plus

Miele also has a moisture function injecting up to three bursts of steam in a cooking cycle.

Moisture is essential for keeping key nutrients in your food and not baking them out.

Miele now is Wi-Fi enabled, and their app works well.

Wireless Probe

Unlike other brands, Miele's probe is wireless, so you can insert the probe anywhere.

Features:

  • Master chef programs offer over 100 food types to cook to perfection
  • Wireless meat probe
  • Twin power fans provide optimum and even distribution of hot air
  • Soft open and soft close door
  • Touch controls
  • 15 different types of bread recipes
  • Glass-infused racks can remain in the oven during cleaning.

What Are the Differences Between Miele and Wolf Wall Ovens?

wolf-vs-miele-wall-ovens-2

When comparing these two wall ovens, the Wolf option stands out as it uses VertiCross convection technology with blowers, which differs from dual fans.

On the other hand, Miele's wall oven has a steam assist feature and a capacity of 4.63 cubic feet, while the Wolf model is a bit bigger at 5.1 cubic feet.

One of the most convenient features of Miele's oven is that you can leave the racks inside while cleaning it.

Additionally, it comes with a wireless probe that allows for precise cooking control.

Meanwhile, Wolf offers the M Series Pro wall oven, which has knobs that many users find easy to use.

Ultimately, your choice between these two ovens will depend on your specific cooking needs and preferences.

Best French Door Wall Oven: Café Appliances CTD90FP4NW2

French door ovens allow you to access your food easier instead of reaching over a drop-down door.

Many restaurants will use French doors for safely accessing larger food items.

Air Fry

The Café Appliances wall oven features an air fryer that uses high heat and convection to crisp food without oil.

However, we haven't been able to fry anything perfectly with any manufacturer's air frying mode yet.

Wi-Fi

SmartHQ is Café's smart app. With Wi-Fi connectivity, you can turn your oven off and on remotely.

There's also a camera in the oven, so you can watch your food on your phone through their app instead of opening the door and losing temperature.

Modes are added wirelessly even after you buy your oven, like their Steakhouse and Turkey modes.

7-Inch Screen

Café also features a large full-color control screen. It shuts off when not in use.

Customization

Cafe-Appliances-French-Door-Wall-Oven-FinishesYou can customize the oven, choosing handles or knobs in brass, copper, and stainless steel, as well as three different finishes, black, white, and stainless steel.

Service

GE has their own service department, so they fix any issues.

Appliance service is crucial because most stores do not offer any repair services.

Features:

  • Stylish French door design
  • French doors can open single-handedly
  • Wi-Fi enabled, adjust temperature/modes with your smartphone
  • Self-Clean oven racks allowing you to leave racks in during the high heat self-clean

Best Value: LG Studio WDES9428F

It's hard to find anything not to like about the LG Studio double wall oven, even for $3,799.

Each oven has a space of 4.7 cubic feet, adding up to 9.4 cubic feet in total.

Controls

It comes with a 7-inch glass screen where you can choose from over 80 cooking modes and recipes.

Reliability

LG might be newer to making wall ovens, but it's been among the top reliable brands at Yale for three years.

LG ThinQ

With LG ThinQ, you can start or stop your oven, set timers, and check on it from anywhere, making your life easier.

Voice Activation

You can use voice commands to control the oven with Alexa and Google Assistant, which makes it handy.

Scan to Cook

This feature lets you scan and send cooking instructions to your oven for pre-packaged meals, simplifying cooking.

InstaView

Tap twice on the oven's door, and the light turns on so you can see inside without opening the door and losing heat.

True Convection

Both ovens use true convection, which means they have a special fan and heating element to cook food evenly.

Each oven also has space for five racks and uses a 2000-watt heating element.

LG ProBake

LG's ProBake moves the baking element from the bottom to the back wall to stop food from burning. It also includes a strong broiler.

Lighting and Viewing

Two lights and a big window let you check on your food without opening the door.

Air Fry Without Pre-Heating

You can make crispy food using little to no oil with the air fry feature, which doesn't require pre-heating.

Temperature Probe

A temperature probe makes sure your food is cooked just right, so it's never under or overcooked.

EasyClean and Self-Clean

The EasyClean feature quickly cleans the oven in 20 minutes with just water and cleaner, and there's also a self-clean option for tougher messes.

Save Your Favorite Recipes

You can save up to 80 favorite recipes in the ovens, making it easy to cook your favorite dishes.

Auto Cook Modes

The top oven has 45, and the bottom oven has 44 auto cook modes, each with pictures on the display screen.

Steam Cooking in the Upper Oven

The top oven has a water reservoir for steam cooking, which keeps food moist and is perfect for steam baking or sous-vide cooking.

Sous vide cooks food slowly in a sealed bag in steam, keeping in more flavors and nutrients.

Features:

  • Both ovens feature True convection for even cooking.
  • The upper oven comes with air fry, steam cooking, and Sous-Vide modes.
  • Each oven includes a temperature probe for precise cooking.
  • It uses ProBake Convection with the heating element on the back wall instead of the oven floor.
  • Equipped with ThinQ technology, enabling Wi-Fi and voice activation.
  • Offers a Speed Clean function that cleans minor spills in just 10 minutes.

Best Gas Wall Oven: BlueStar BWO30AGSV2

Little known fact: Most major brands like GE and Whirlpool never made a gas range until the late 1980s.

Many of the premium brands never manufactured a gas wall oven.

I always wondered why?

Electric is more precise and is better for baking. Gas is better for roasting as well as broiling.

Colors

BlueStar-Wall-Ovens-Example-of-Color-Options

BlueStar offers 1,000 colors and ten trim packages.

If that is not enough, you can even customize with one of your own.

Broiling

Infrared gas is the best for broiling.

Infrared broilers provide a much better sear because infrared is a directed heat, rather than diffused like a regular gas burner.

Restaurants use infrareds to sear the tops of their crème brulée.

That sear element on the $10,000 Lynx pro grill is an infrared burner as well.

French Door

BlueStar-Kitchen-at-Yale-Appliance-in-Hanover-2023

Like the Café, their French door design allows you not to lift your turkey over the door.

Sizes

BlueStar has gas wall ovens in 24, 30, and 36-inch sizes.

So you can replace an existing smaller wall oven as well as buying an oversized unit.

Features:

  • Comes with a strong burner and a high-heat broiler.
  • Fits a large commercial baking sheet (18" x 26").
  • Has stylish French doors.
  • The 24-inch depth fits well with standard kitchen cabinets.
  • You can choose a single oven or stack two ovens together.
  • Rounded corners make it heat better and easier to clean.
  • You can pick natural gas or LP gas models.
  • Made with care in Pennsylvania since 1880.

How to Buy a Wall Oven

Size

Wall ovens are available in 24, 27, 30, and 36 inches to fit standard cabinet sizes. For new construction, 30 inches is over 90% of units sold nationally.

Twenty-four and 27-inch wall ovens are mostly bought as a replacement for existing ovens.

Twenty-four inches is the most common gas wall oven size, while 27 inches is more commonly electric.

Thirty-six inches is a specialty with premium brands like Gaggenau and BlueStar.

Fuel Type: Gas vs. Electric

Electric ovens are far more common, and over 95% of units are sold as electric.

Gas is mostly replaced at 24 inches. Unlike ranges, there are only a few good gas-wall ovens on the market.

As we mentioned earlier, gas ovens are better for broiling and roasting. Electric ovens are more consistent and better for baking.

You will probably end up with an electric oven because of the sheer selection.

Single vs. Double Wall Ovens

wolf-wall-ovens-at-yale-appliance-in-hanover

The real question is, do you need a double oven?

Let me tell you a story:

When my parents moved out of our home in Needham, they moved into a condo in Jamaica Plain.

Their new kitchen features two ovens and a microwave.

The wall oven still had packaging on the inside when they left four years later.

Now you can buy a single oven, place a steam or speed oven over it, and cook differently.

Specialty Wall Ovens

Choosing between having a double wall oven or a single oven depends on how much you will use that second oven.

If the answer is never or rarely, buy a single oven with a speed or steam oven.

You must assess what you need, what you will use, and where it fits in your kitchen.

Here is what you can do by adding a specialty oven:

Steam Ovens

GAGGENAU-BS485612-steam-oven-installed-over-a-30-inch-wall-oven

Steam cooking is pretty amazing.

I own a steam oven and everything I cook is so much more flavorful out of a steam oven.

Steam doesn't dehydrate food like a regular oven.

2024 is the year I learn how to cook in a steam oven as my primary oven.

It's also a healthier way to cook.

Steam doesn’t bake nutrients out of your food in addition to adding flavor.

Speed Ovens

thermador-speed-oven-at-yale-appliance-in-hanover

Speed ovens combine microwave and convection cooking.

You can use the functions separately or combine them for speed without the rubbery texture of using a microwave.

Warming Drawers

Warming-Drawers

You can add a warming drawer to keep food warm for up to three hours without dehydrating it. You can place a drawer under your oven.

This is especially useful if you and your family eat at different times.

Wall Oven Reliability

The following service rates are based on a minimum of 45 products sold and a total sample of over 1,000 products within 12 months.

  Service Rates
Gaggenau 2.1%
Miele 3.9%
LG Studio 4.4%
Café Appliances 4.7%
Thermador 5.7%
GE Profile 9.1%
Fisher & Paykel 10.9%
Bosch  11.6%
JennAir 23.1%
Grand Total 6.9%

In 2023, we logged over 37,000 service calls. We calculate appliance reliability by dividing the products we serviced by the products we sold.

Gaggenau wall ovens are the most reliable, closely followed by Miele and LG Studio.

You can read more about reliability in this article: Most Reliable Wall Ovens

Wall Ovens vs. Major Appliances for Reliability

Wall ovens need repair just slightly less than the average appliance with a service rate of 8.3%. It's surprising as most are sold as double ovens.

Many issues are installation and customer education oriented.

However, wall ovens have more complicated controls, yet there are not many experienced technicians to fix these incredibly complex units.

Before you buy a wall oven, you need to know who will fix your new appliances.

Extended appliance warranties will not help you unless a service department backs them. Most warranties are not backed by much of anything.

Which Wall Oven Should You Buy?

wall-ovens-at-yale-appliance-in-hanover-2

If you're looking for the best wall oven, you may be overwhelmed and think all wall ovens look similar these days.

But there's no such thing as the best wall oven because no single product has guided cooking, steam assist, and smart home functionality.

Ultimately, it depends on what you value and how you cook.

Gaggenau has the most modes for any cooking.

If you cook professionally or creatively, Gaggenau is a good consideration. You're paying more for better functionality in a wall oven.

With guided cooking modes, Miele and Wolf will figure out the time and temperature for you versus you figuring it out yourself.

The Wolf Gourmet system with rack settings may be the best.

LG Studio has a lower-priced double-wall oven with surprisingly good features for less money.
