My short answer is yes…most of the time. Installing your wall oven underneath your cooktop is becoming very popular, especially in urban areas with space restrictions.

In this article, you will learn the reasons behind placing a cooktop over a wall oven and where you should be very careful.
Buying a Range vs. a Cooktop Over a Wall Oven
- Placing a cooktop over a wall oven can look really elegant. You also keep the granite edge and the toe kick below (compare the two applications below).
- Wall ovens typically have more functionality than a range with steam, dual convection and guided cooking.
- If you are looking to buy high-end appliances but are limited by space, you can buy better looking appliances by planning for a 24’’ cooktop over a 24’’ wall oven. There is a very limited selection for 24’’ ranges.
- However the average difference between a range and cooktop/wall oven is $700-2000, so you do pay for the look.
Can you place a wall oven under a rangetop?
Rangetops are the burners of high output professional ranges. Grills, griddles and French tops are all available in a rangetop.
Cooktops have only one or two power burners with no grill, griddle or French top functionality
You cannot install a wall oven under a rangetop because the wall oven will not fit underneath.
Rangetops are too tall at 8+ inches tall versus 3-4 inches for a cooktop.
However you can install a warming drawer underneath most rangetops, which is a nice idea.
Can you fit a cooktop, downdraft, and wall oven in the same cabinet?
Yes, but I would not attempt it. The new Best Cattura allows a downdraft behind a rangetop or even a range. We have a separate article for this installation.
As a company, we do not recommend this installation.

Where You Will Have Issues
Yes, you can place a cooktop over a wall oven (except in limited instances).
It's harder when mixing brands. You have more flexibility in electric products because they are shallow with a flexible cord in the back. The electrical can be placed anywhere.
Not every induction fits, be careful when installing induction over wall ovens from different manufacturers.
Gas appliances are the most problematic because the gas pipe can limit your options. The gas valve location differs by brand.
We recommend staying with the same manufacturer. Usually a manufacturer will fit a cut out in the wall oven to accommodate the gas piping for their particular cooktop.
However, this is not a guarantee. In one of the comments, a homeowner is having issues with a BlueStar cooktop and wall oven.
When you mix brands the gas valve does not line up with the wall oven most of the time, so installation will be compromised.
Final Words
In many instances, you can install a cooktop over a wall oven in 34-35 inch normal cabinets.
However, you need to measure and not assume, especially if you are mixing brands as others have commented on this article below.

It does look better than a regular range, doesn’t it…..but be careful and check the specs first.
