Samsung and LG are two South Korean companies that dominate the household electronics industry. Both companies manufacture household appliances as well and are probably best known for their large capacity laundry and refrigeration.
Both brands tend to lead the way in the affordable luxury market when it comes to incorporating technological innovation. Let’s take a look at what each brand has to offer.
First, we will be comparing front control ranges. That needs a bit of explanation.
Types of Ranges
If you are in the market for a new gas range, chances are you are looking for a range that can fit a 30’’ cutout. Fortunately, in this size you have many options at a wide variety of prices.
There are three types of ranges in the industry: freestanding ranges, front control ranges, and professional ranges. Samsung and LG make both freestanding and front control ranges.
What is the Difference?
Freestanding ranges have controls on the back of the range. Front control ranges have controls on the front of the range. Front control ranges sometimes have unfinished sides and wings that overlap your counters.
Some front control ranges push back against the wall, whereas others require countertop or a filler strip behind the range. Before purchasing a new range, it is important to remember what your space looks like and to possibly take pictures and measurements before visiting the showroom.

Comparison
Both brands tend to be feature loaded for a competitive price. Let’s assess the main feature differences.
Burner Power
The Samsung offers two high burners, two medium burners and a simmer burner. The LG range offers one high burner, three medium burners, and a simmer burner. The Samsung is better because you can have a high BTU output on 2 burners. The LG does not give you as much versatility.
Burner Accessories
Samsung gives you a reversible grill/griddle and wok grate, LG gives you a griddle accessory.
Warming Drawer
Samsung has one, LG does not. Warming drawers are great for busy families or if you like to entertain. It keeps food warm for up to three hours without drying it out. You also do not lose texture as you would in a microwave.
Of course, LG has a larger oven at 6.3 cubic feet versus 5.8 in the Samsung.
Temperature Probe
Samsung has one, LG does not. Temperature probes make it easier to cook large cuts of meat to the desired temperature without guesswork.
Sabbath Mode
Samsung has it, LG does not. For those who are looking for Sabbath mode, Samsung is the better choice.
Features on both ranges
3 oven racks, convection cooking, self-cleaning, and a slide-in design that overlaps your countertops.
Final Thoughts
They are both very desirable. LG is larger and less expensive. However, Samsung does offer more with a warming drawer, temperature probe, Sabbath mode, grill/griddle and wok accessory, and more burner versatility.
Although both are reliable, the fit and finish on the Samsung seems better. From a service standpoint, Samsung is a better company for parts availability and turnaround.
One last tip: Both of these companies have electronics backgrounds. They will heavily promote around holidays especially Black Friday, President's Day and Labor Day, so hold off if you can.
