The Maytag MHW8630HC is Maytags best front load washer and one of the best sold by parent company Whirlpool.
In this article, you will learn all of Maytag's best features, cycles, and reliability based on real service data. In the end, we will briefly compare Maytag to its main competitors, GE and Electrolux.
Let’s get started.
Like most high-end front load washers, the MHW8630HC has plenty of cycles and options 14 in all with four wash rinse combinations and five spin speeds.
You can even customize it as well. The MHW8630HC is Wi-Fi-enabled and can be started or stopped from an app on your phone.
Maytag also has several impressive cycles. Extra Power is their most important feature.
With Extra Power, you can mix a load of colors and whites without shrinking your clothes or turning your underwear pink (unless you have pink underwear).
This cycle starts in cold water and gradually increases the temperature to wash whites and colors at the same time. It saves you time because with Maytag’s front load washer MHW8630HC, you can always have a full load.
There are some other decent cycles like a short cycle to wash a small load in 15 minutes. You also have a 24-hour fresh hold cycle.
It will turn the clothes every 30 minutes for up to 24 hours to keep your clothes fresh and not damp and moldy. Most competitive companies may have 1 for 8 hours, so you have more time with Maytag.
Lastly, Maytag has a 14.3-ounce automatic dispenser. Auto dispensing is the newest laundry feature. It allows you to add multiple loads of detergent. The machine will add in the right amount at the right time.
Most people also add too much detergent. Unfortunately, it will create too many suds, and over time the suds will eat away at the bearings of the machine. That’s a significant service call you can avoid with an automatic dispenser.
Front Load Washer Reliability July 2019 to June 2020
Service Qty | Shipped Qty | Service Ratio | |
Maytag | 177 | 558 | 31.72% |
LG Electronics | 164 | 1909 | 8.59% |
Miele | 28 | 428 | 6.54% |
Samsung | 37 | 658 | 5.62% |
Whirlpool | 14 | 300 | 4.67% |
GE Appliances | 19 | 424 | 4.48% |
Grand Total | 448 | 4285 | 10.45% |
Maytag's reliability was worse than almost all of its competitors, LG, Samsung, GE, and even Whirlpool. The problem is simple as the dispenser can get moldy and needs to be cleaned periodically.
Let’s compare Maytag features versus the other brands.
Most front load washer brands have similar cycles and options. Maytag has the Extra Power Button and a longer Fresh Hold cycle
Whirlpool and GE have larger dispensers at over 50 ounces. The dispensers are placed at the bottom and do not have the issues with mold-like Maytag
GE has the whole anti-mold package by covering all the gaskets, hoses, and dispensers with the antimicrobial Microban technology. They also add a fan to dry the machine after the wash.
Maytag also does not have a reversible door, so it's harder to load clothes into the dryer in certain situations. Only GE and Electrolux have this feature.
Lastly, the price is roughly $1000-1200 or approximately $100-300 more than its competitors, depending on the price and promotion.
You can buy the smaller LG for $799, or Samsung is $699. GE is around $899 for the same size.
Still, if you are looking for a good, solid machine with plenty of features, consider the Maytag smart front load washer MHW8630HC.
Buy it on promotion if you can and remember to clean the dispenser.
