A french door refrigerator is a side by side refrigerator with a bottom pull out freezer drawer.  French doors have become more popular due to their unique style along with shorter doors in island configurations and tighter spaces.

We will look at regular depth along with counter depth french doors here.

Regular depth (will protrude 6-8 inches into your kitchen)

22 Cubic Foot or 33 inches wide

  • GE GFSS2HCYSS $1199 in white / $1449 in stainless: The main feature to the General Electric refrigerator is its size. Most French doors are actually manufactured to fit larger cabinets.

25 Cubic foot 36 wide

Most refrigerators of this size are seemingly similar. They all have water and ice dispensers as well as adjustable shelving. I prefer domestic manufacturers for service, especially parts availability and technical support (we do not outsource repair, so it matters).

Counter Depth

Sub-Zero Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

  • Jenn-Air JFC2089WEM $1549 after rebate: Jenn-Air offers a 20 cu. ft. french door with an internal water dispenser. It is part of our best package and with $400 rebates is the most reasonable counter depth french door for greater.

  • Frigidaire FGHG2344MF $2149: Frigidaire Gallery has always been known for value. This refrigerator is 3 cu. ft. larger than the Jenn-Air

  • Sub-Zero BI-36: Sub-Zero is a different type of refrigerator. It's mission is to keep food fresher longer. The Sub-Zero features a vacuum seal and magnetic to prevent air infiltrating/exfiltrating in the refrigerator, two compressors for better temperature regulation. Last year they added an air scrubber to prevent food from spoiling in the refrigerator itself. SubZero will be manufacturing a french door refrigerator in 2013. During the home show, will be warrantying all Sub-Zero products for five full years.
