We’ve served Greater Boston for over 100 years. Now we’re on the island, bringing the best appliances and the service to support them.

Why Nantucket?

About a year ago, our Vice President of Sales and Vice President of Operations called me into a meeting.

Marine Lumber, a respected company with deep roots on Nantucket, was closing its appliance division.

They believed it was an opportunity worth exploring.

I thought it was a terrible idea.

I even joked that if we were expanding anywhere, it’d be Boise, Idaho, or Nashville Tennessee... not an island with complex logistics and seasonal demand.

On an island, everything is harder: trucking freight to a terminal, loading it onto a boat, offloading, and delivering without delay. 

The issues would compound exponentially without comprehensive delivery, installation, and service.

Imagine a client with an issue like a "no-cold refrigerator" that couldn't be fixed for weeks during the season.

How Yale Nantucket Came to Be

But two weeks later, they came back with a plan.

Marine Lumber had agreed to continue servicing all past appliance customers, even as they exited the appliance business.

They also had a local team of technicians, installers, and service pros willing to join Yale.

That changed everything.

If you’ve followed our blog, you know we say it all the time: service is the tiebreaker between brands and stores.

With a trusted team already on the island, plus a warehouse for in-stock appliances and housing for our staff, we could deliver the level of service our customers expect.

We even had a long list of eager summer applicants ready to help run the showroom (go figure).

So, we moved forward, with the goal of bringing the same service mindset we have in Dorchester, Framingham, Hanover, Norton, and Hyannis - just on a smaller scale.
