Why We're Closing on Most Sundays

TL;DR: Why We're Closing on Most Sundays

Starting January 2026, we’ll be closed most Sundays to match how you shop today and to give our team a real day to reset. We’ll stay open on the busy weekends that matter most.

When I first opened Yale on Sundays 35 years ago, it was a lifeline. Back then, if you wanted to buy appliances, you had to walk into a store, often more than once, to get it right.

Today, you start online.

You compare brands, read reviews, and watch videos. By the time you visit, you’ve already narrowed it down. That shift has changed how and when people shop.

So I want to explain why we’ve decided to close on most Sundays, why I believe it’s the right move for you, our team, and how we all live now.

Shopping Patterns Have Changed

Before the internet, shopping took time. You had to visit a store two or three times to compare features and prices.

Sundays made sense then.

For most people, it was the only free day.

Now you do almost everything at home. You read buying guides. You watch videos. You call with questions before ever stepping inside.

Sunday just isn’t the day for figuring out appliances anymore.

How Builders Work and Why That Matters

Another shift is how builders work. About half of what we do now is with builders and project managers.

They don't meet on Saturdays. They rarely call on Sundays.

Most wrap up by Friday afternoon.

More than half of our business happens between Monday and Thursday. Sunday just isn’t part of the workflow anymore.

The Real Reason We’re Closing Sundays

The real reason we’re closing most Sundays? It’s how they feel now for families, for staff, and for me.

Most families I know spend Sundays at games or practice. Soccer, lacrosse, hockey. Or just home together.

Sunday has become a real family day again.

Our staff deserves that same time. After 35 years of working on Sundays, I do too.

Staffing and Your Experience

It’s harder to find great people, especially now that we have six stores and a 220,000 square foot Operations Center we opened in 2024.

You want someone who knows appliances and can explain the real differences.

Someone who’s seen enough kitchens to steer you away from costly mistakes. That takes time and training. We invest in both, every week.

But when we stretch the week too thin, we start hiring faster than we should.

Closing most Sundays helps us keep our senior people in the stores longer.

It means you’ll work with someone who has more experience. And that’s what you deserve.

What Sundays Do Not Affect

Closing most Sundays does not change the service you count on from us.

We will still deliver and install within 48 hours, just like we did before.

If you order on Saturday and need it Monday, and it is in stock, we will get it to you on Monday.

That is why this change makes sense now. Even if you start your search on a Sunday, speed does not disappear.

You can still schedule many of our most popular models for next-day or 48-hour delivery once we are back in on Monday.

You are not losing momentum. You are just shifting the final step to the start of the week.

The Sundays We Will Still Be Open

calendar

We’re not disappearing on the weekends that matter.

We’ll still be open on key shopping Sundays, including:

  • February 8th & 15th (Presidents' Day)
  • August 9th or 16th (potential Tax-Free Sunday)
  • November 29th (Thanksgiving Sunday)

When you need us, we’ll be here. Closing most Sundays just removes the days no one is using, leaving the ones that count.

Conclusion

This wasn’t an easy decision. We want to be here when it’s convenient for you.

But this change fits how you shop today and how we work now.

It gives our team a real day to reset and lets us serve you better the other six days.

I believe it’s the right choice for you and for everyone who works at Yale.

Check our Sunday schedule online or stop by Monday through Saturday. We’re here when it matters most.
