In the market for laundry, high efficiency washers are everywhere. High efficiency front and hybrid top loading machines use turbidity sensors to measure how dirty your clothes are and use energy and water as needed.

High efficiency washers also have higher spin speeds than ever before. They spin your clothes almost dry to avoid long dry times.

Up until the heat pump dryer was introduced, dryers were not really even rated by EnergyStar for efficiency. My recommendation before the heat pump was to buy a washer with a high spin speed.

Whirlpool vs. LG Heat Pump Dryers (Reviews/Ratings/Prices)

Washers have been the focus of energy efficiency for years. Now you can buy an energy efficient dryer. Heat pump dryers have been produced in Europe for years by Miele, Electrolux, LG, Whirlpool, Blomberg and others.

The only two full size dryers with a heat pump available in the U.S. are LG and Whirlpool.

We will look at both, the heat pump technology itself and then compare. There are differences worth noting.

The Largest Front Load Washers (Reviews/Ratings/Prices)

We updated this article June 21st because LG and Samsung have just introduced some incredibly large washers. Read on to see where they rank in size in the models displayed at Yale. However, there are other considerations and implications when buying these machines.

So you want the largest washer you can buy? Of course you do, we all have busy lives and why would we want to spend it waiting for your laundry to be done. Larger capacity means fewer loads. It's hard to tell the sizes by looking at the brands own websites because there are several types of measurement.

We have assembled a list of the largest machines using the Department of Energy guidelines from the EnergyStar website. It's the only consistent measurement in the industry.

The Largest Top Mount Refrigerators (Reviews/Ratings/Prices)

This article will address the four largest top mount refrigerators in the industry. Top mount refrigerators have a freezer on top and refrigerator on the bottom. These refrigerators are the most economical but are not manufactured in counter depth sizes. If you are planning to replace your old top mount refrigerator or are remodeling on a budget these four refrigerators are Energy Star Certified and offer optimal storage space and high end features at a lower price.

Cabinet Sizes

Refrigerators (and appliances in general) are designed to fit within cabinets. The most common cabinet sizes are 30", 33" and 36" wide. The other less common sizes are 24" as well as 42" and 48" width. Top mount refrigerators are designed for the 33" and especially 30" widths.

Class Action Suit Against Whirlpool, Sears and LG Front Load Washers

It is hard to believe the industry is facing another class action suit against the three largest brands Whirlpool, Sears and LG. A similar action against Maytag 15 years ago killed the company. At issue is the machines producing mold and mildew due to water being trapped in the front of the machine. Standing water would create an odor if left over time.
