You will see more of Blomberg and Asko, because GE as well as Bosch no longer produce a vented compact dryer. Read: Blomberg Laundry and New UL Dryer Codes.

Compact Laundry

Condo or city living space is at a premium. Making room for full size washers and dryers difficult if not impossible. Compact laundry generally refers to 24 inch washers and dryers. This size is convenient for stacking in closets or placing side by side in a standard 24 inch kitchen cabinet.

Almost all compact laundry is built and/or engineered in Europe. The Europeans typically have smaller kitchens and living spaces, so compact laundry is a staple. Since these machines are only available in electric models, gas hook-up is not necessary. Compact laundry are also popular in urban areas like Boston and Cambridge.

ASKO was started by a farmer in Sweden who wanted to impress his mother by designing a new washer. ASKO products have been marketed throughout North America by ASKO Appliances, Inc. for over 23 years, but the owners have changed recently from Swedish Asea to the bankrupt Italian Merloni company to the Slovenian Goranje. This has had an impact on the brand.

Blomberg is a quality and trusted name in the European household appliances market. Owned by the Turkish Arcelik, the 3rd largest appliance manufacturer in Europe, Blomberg has gained a sizeable presence in the average European home with a full array of products. Turkey is the home of many appliances, from Blomberg compact laundry to Gaggenau, Bosch and Thermador refrigerators.

Blomberg vs Asko Compact Washing Machines

I was a big Asko fan, but the company has recently been disconnected by being footballed to so many different companies. The product has suffered a bit. Blomberg seems to be a good company.

Another reason for the tentative recommendation is the dearth of products in this segment. I will really like Blomberg when we sell more. Until then, there is not much choice. Btw, we know you are reading this from Istanbul :)

A few review sites have placed this at the bottom of their articles. So here is our take: Our mission is to find reliable products for you to buy. Other review sites may say this as well.

However, we don’t love every product. Quite frankly, it costs us way too much money in repair costs to support less reliable brands.

In fact, we sell fewer brands than most appliance stores. Here is why:

We feel it is our responsibility to repair your appliances after you buy them.

We now have 30 service technicians, each averaging 8-10 calls a day Monday through Friday, plus another 110 on Saturday. That's over 30,000 service calls logged in one year.

The labor rates of fixing an appliance do not come close to the true cost in any product’s warranty period.

That is why no major retailer has a service department. It costs too much labor, money and time.

Our Blog is a bit different than most others you will read. We cannot write glowing reviews of unreliable products.

Hopefully, the bloggers and organizations who write such glowing product reviews for every brand consider servicing these products first. Only then they will understand the consequences of their marketing.
