Miele vs. Thermador Dishwashers (Reviews / Ratings / Prices)

Written by Steve Sheinkopf | Jun 8, 2017 1:07:00 PM

If you are looking for a dishwasher, you probably should not compare these two dishwashers. But, we will look at both brands and then explain why you want one versus the other.

Let’s start with some background.

Miele

Miele has been an independent family-owned company since 1899. Their strategy and vision were to become the most favored brand in the industry. Miele offers products to their customers that set high standards for durability, performance, and service.

Their guiding principle of "Immer Besser" (Forever Better) is a perfect reflection of a company whom from the beginning, has always strived to be the best.

Miele manufactures down to the component level and only outsources the rollers under the dishwasher racks. Such attention to detail results in a more reliable dishwasher.

Thermador

Founded by William E. Cranston in 1916, Thermador began its roots as a manufacturer of electrical products such as their portable and built-in heaters.

In 1998 Thermador was acquired by BSH Home Appliances Corporation, one of the largest appliance manufacturer companies in the world. Since their beginning Thermador has been a company of innovation and technology.

However, the dishwashers are manufactured by Bosch with a Thermador label. This dishwasher is given away as part of the 1, 2, Free promotion. You buy a cooktop and wall oven or a pro range, this $1,299 dishwasher becomes free.

Think about that for a minute.

Now let us compare both dishwashers with similar prices.

The Comparison

Miele is measurably quieter. It also has the only real dry cycle in the industry. The dishwasher has an air intake, and the cooler air is drawn to the outside of the unit. The heat is attracted to the colder side and dissipated.

You also have a third rack in the Miele, so you can have more space for pots and pans.

Miele is also more reliable than the Thermador/Bosch unit. Yet with more features and reliability, why are the prices so similar?

The Thermador has almost the same feature package to the $699 Bosch 6 series, so Miele vs. Bosch becomes the fair comparison.

However, to answer the question: Buy the Miele or lower priced Bosch.

Take the Thermador only when it's free in a kitchen package or offered at the same price as the Bosch, because it has a better 2 year warranty.
