It's Monday again...which means Makeover Monday. I will show you ideas you may want to consider in your kitchen with real life examples. It's our third week. Let me know what you think, but let me show you a project from Susan Downes.

I love this kitchen. Let's look at appliances first:

Appliances

Yale hood, Thermador professional range, Bosch dishwasher, KitchenAid compactor, Thermador wine cooler and U-Line ice maker, Thermador Freedom refrigerator

Of all these, I want to show you the microwave.

I think mounting a microwave is smart. It allows easy access especially for kids, and does not use upper cabinet space. Susan used a regular microwave and trim kit (for ventilation). You can buy a pull out microwave drawer instead for convenience, but the regular microwave is $300-400 cheaper.

Plumbing

Yale faucet, Franke bar faucet, pull out faucet.

I like how she place a sink faucet in the bar area. It will be handy when mixing drinks, cutting limes, etc. I really like the pot filler. Why carry a heavy pot of water, when you can have it point of use.

Lighting

Nora LED strips, Slope ceiling cans

This kitchen is illuminated perfectly. Let's look at the under cabinet lights. Notice how she has placed them on top of the cabinets to light the ceiling. It's called ambient lighting and adds a nice warm dimension to the room. You can accomplish this by pendants and sconces as well.

Decorative lighting

So many clients are fixated on buying chandeliers and the matching pendants. Decorative lighting adds the character and personality to the room. Decorative lighting does not light a room. The recessed and under cabinet lighting do the work. I always tell people to buy what they want (within reason). Let's look at a kitchen with three different decorative pieces.
