Vacuuming is an integral part of interior cleaning, and for some people, it is an essential step in maintaining their houses, cars and office surroundings.

If you like to keep everything in place and dislike the idea of hidden bacteria or germs sitting around in your interiors, a vacuum cleaner can help.

Given the stream of choices that the industry gives you, there is no lack of options for a vacuum cleaner to choose.

However, with the advancing technology and innovation, the main thing to worry about is the category of a given appliance that you should choose for your purpose.

Corded

Corded vacuums are exactly the appliance popping into your mind at the first mention of a vacuum cleaner. All you need is to plug them into a power source and adjust the tool parts to get the desired cleaning results.

Quite simply stated, a cordless vacuum cleaner is the exact opposite of a corded device in respect of the power source used for its operation.

Now, apart from this obvious difference and the potential benefits or drawbacks, here are some of the crucial pros and cons of either device.

Navigating the Good Road Ahead

As with all technological goods, vacuum cleaners, corded and cordless, come with their own set of pros and cons. There is not one dominant product...at least not yet.

To help you decide which type of vacuum cleaner you should be buying for your particular requirement, let us take you through these aspects so that you can choose one for yourself.

Decoding a Corded Vacuum Cleaner

Pros

  • Suction power: With amazing suction capacity, corded vacuum cleaners use a high electrical input, which is processed by their powerful motors to give an excellent cleaning output.
  • Use as long as needed: The use of a corded vacuum cleaner is not limited by batteries, which is why they can practically be used for any length of time.
  • Efficient cleaning: Corded vacuum cleaners typically come with more tools and changeable parts, which makes them very flexible for use. You could use different parts of the cleaner to reach every nook and corner of your interior.
  • Greater capacity to catch dust: Conventionally, corded vacuum cleaners are larger in size and consequently, also offer a larger space for the dust to get collected in. Thus, you can continue to use your cleaner for longer periods, without the need to evacuate the collected dust.
  • Relatively inexpensive: As compared to a cordless vacuum cleaner, the price aspect of a corded alternative will pleasantly surprise you.

Cons

  • Restrictions to movement: Practically, a corded vacuum cleaner can be used only as long as the main wire allows you to move around. It restricts the circumference that you can cover with your cleaner and may require constant plugging and unplugging, to move around and reach different spots.
  • Bulky: given the shape, size, and capacity of a corded vacuum cleaner, it is no doubt that it remains the bulkier alternative, which requires consideration about storage and carriage by the owner.

Decoding a Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

Pros

  • Comparatively less bulky: The difference between the cordless and corded vacuum cleaner is huge. The cordless vacuum cleaner is less bulky. You can easily carry it around and clean tight places and floors and carpets.
  • Less Weight: Weighing less by more than half of a corded cleaner, it is much easier to carry around. You can practically hold it in your hand and reach many corners with it.
  • Greater use: cordless options are not limited to use indoors alone. You can use it at any place.
  • Compact: It is compact compared to a corded vacuum, which makes it possible to move to any place and easily reaches places that might be difficult to clean with a corded vacuum.
  • Powerful: Even though the size of the cordless vacuum is small, it still packs a lot of power. As the motor is powerful, and the battery provides with the juice it requires.
  • Quick Cleanup: Unlike the corded vacuum, you can easily use it as it does not require a lot of effort to unpack. You can attach the required attachment, clean the surface, and easily put it back.
  • Increased Reach: As the cordless vacuum is comparatively lightweight you can use one hand to reach places which would be difficult with a corded vacuum.
  • Maneuverability: It can be easily maneuvered as it has no cord which can cause a lot of problems while moving the machine. You don’t have to worry about the length of the cord which defines your reach for corded vacuums.

Cons

  • Limited capacity: Owing to their engineering, these cleaners have limited use since they are prone to run out of battery after a certain while and may not be able to catch as much dust as you might expect.
  • Expensive: Cost is another aspect which makes these cleaners questionable. For the technology they deliver, they are priced at a premium, and not everyone can afford to buy them.

The Final Lowdown

Which option to go for depends completely on your utility, expected use, area to be cleaned, storage capacity, and affordability of the cleaner.

While both options deliver excellent cleaning results, it is up to their own benefits and drawbacks to guide you about choosing the best one for your need. Though a cordless vacuum cleaner is a little more costly than the corded vacuum cleaner, it justifies it with the benefits it provides over the corded one.
