Bosch vs. Electrolux Dishwashers (Ratings / Reviews / Prices)

Written by Steve Sheinkopf | Apr 22, 2016 12:00:00 PM

Bosch and Electrolux are two of the largest appliance companies in the world. Yet up until three years ago, you could not compare the two, because Electrolux does not market their own dishwasher in the U.S.A.

This is an interesting comparison between two different companies with two very different dishwashers. We will look at both companies, the products and then compare to see what might be right for your kitchen.

Bosch

Bosch is a European based company with much of its dishwasher production based in the U.S. They are a global company manufacturing a plethora of goods from automotive parts to garden tools and even solar devices.

Bosch is known for their quality dishwashers, without question. Their North Carolina facility is the largest dishwasher factory in the world. Bosch at this writing does not produce a freestanding range or even a basic refrigerator. They do, however, produce one of the world's greatest dishwashers.

Their models offer a wide array of racking adjustability making it easy to fit dishes in all shapes and sizes. They also heat the water to a higher temperature which assists in their condensation drying and yes, this dishwasher is very quiet.

Electrolux

Electrolux is another company with European roots. They manufactured their 1 millionth refrigerator by 1936, so they have been around awhile.

In many ways, Electrolux is the direct opposite of Bosch. They are a more recent entry into the dishwasher market being more of a range, laundry and refrigeration company, at least in the U.S. Appliances are their only business, quite unlike Bosch.

Electrolux has placed more emphasis on redesigning the wash system with different sprays and targeted areas of cleaning. It is smart for sport bottles, pacifiers and taller glasses.

Comparison

Both of these machines give you great performance and a ton of racking and loading options. It provides custom space for everything from stemware to your largest ladle and even unique items like small tupperware containers and espresso cups.

The third rack for silverware in each brand are going to provide even more space to fit all of your dirty dishes.

The removable tray in the Electrolux is an added bonus, making putting the dishes away even more convenient. However the flexibility in the Bosch’s third rack allows for more versatile loading.

The sleek European design of the Bosch will sit flush with your cabinetry for a smooth continuous look. Electrolux technically has more room, but will protrude from the cabinet.

Bosch European Style Dishwasher Install

Electrolux follows more of an American template when it comes to the design of their appliances with more space and depth. They also have a soft food grinder at the bottom of the dishwasher versus a food filter for the Bosch.

They both have an express wash for a 30 minute wash for lighter loads.

The targeted wash zones are great in the Electrolux, getting high pressure spray into those hard to clean items like water and baby bottles.

Electrolux Target Wash Zone

The Bosch has a handy removable accessory for similar items or to hold a vase or carafe.

Electrolux has the Satellite wash system, so there is more water sprayed in more areas than the Bosch.

So, it’s clear to see that both of these models are going to give you everything and more when it comes to washing your dishes and add ease to an otherwise dirty job.

Which is Better?

The satellite spray on the Electrolux is kind of cool, but you would expect dishes to be clean in any dishwasher including sport bottles and taller glasses.

There are two areas to consider. First is quietness. Bosch is 50% quieter at a noiseless 40 dBA's versus Electrolux at still decent 45 dBA's.

In terms of reliability, Bosch is second only to the Miele brand in repair for the first year. Electrolux had a rocky start a few years ago, but Bosch is a more reliable dishwasher.
