Top and bottom freezer refrigerators are the least represented products. Manufacturers have focused on the more glamorous side by side, French door, integrated and professional categories. Part of the reason is more stringent energy efficiency standards. Most companies simply stopped producing products instead of reinvesting in new tooling to build new ones.

In top mounts, there are still a few products worth considering
Top Mount Refrigerators
Frigidaire really dominates the top mounts. Most companies do not even manufacture the category any more, so it's hard to understand who they are actually discounting against...perhaps other types of refrigerators.
The 15 cubic foot is perfect for 2-3 people or as a sizeable second unit. The best refrigerator of the bunch is either the popular stainless 18 cubic foot at $499 the family sized 21 cubic foot, because it still fits within a standard 30 inch cabinet. The 21 cubic foot is $599 for white and just $100 more for stainless.
I also like the company. They are one of the most reliable according to our service department.
Bottom Mount Refrigerators
Bottom mounts are dominated like top mounts, but only by a different manufacturer, Whirlpool. Amana and Maytag are both labels of Whirlpool. Buy whatever is less expensive or in this case, buy if there is a package with other appliances.
Side by Side Refrigerators
In full size, non cabinet depth side by sides, the Frigidaire is very strong at $999 with the upgraded KitchenAid at $1269.
Frigidaire manufactures the least expensive counter depth refrigerator at $1339. Also look at the nicer looking Bosch, which is usually part of aggressive promotional packages
