Wolf vs. Thermador 30 Inch Double Wall Ovens (Reviews / Ratings / Prices)

Written by Amy Ross | Jun 27, 2014 4:00:00 PM

Thermador and Wolf are arguably the two best premium wall ovens in the industry. They are, however, very different in terms of features, price and reliability.

We will look at both companies in terms of structure, features, price and reliability.

Let's look at both companies...

Wolf

Wolf brand appliances are one of the premium products in the industry today. The Wolf brand was acquired by Sub-Zero in 2000. Sub-Zero is the largest family-owned appliance manufacturer and second worldwide behind Miele.

Wolf is manufactured in Madison, Wisconsin and have more than 70 years of experience building high quality restaurant and hotel professional cooking equipment. Wolf has been an innovator being first with twin convection, retractable control panels and multiple specialized cooking modes.

Thermador

Thermador is also one of the top brands in the industry. Founded in 1916 Thermador introduced many of the industry’s firsts throughout the years like wall ovens, downdrafts and cooktops to name a few. They were the first American premium appliance manufacturer.

The Thermador Corporation was acquired by the multinational BSH Company in 1998. Thermador is now the premium line in Bosch’s portfolio and is also one of the most reliable brands sold at Yale.

Thermador vs. Wolf Wall Ovens

Wolf 30 DO30F/S L Series - $6,799

The Wolf double wall oven offers a dual convection system with two fans and four heating elements in their top oven for multi rack cooking. The ovens have ten cooking modes such as dehydrate, proof, and bake stone as well as different specialized convection modes for different foods.

Wolf has an attractive looking cobalt blue porcelain interior with halogen lighting for optimal view of all racks without open door. The door hinge has a hydraulic damper for soft easy open and close and easy glide durable racks. The oven offers a recessed broil element for more capacity inside.

Thermador PODC302J Professional Series - $5,999

The Thermador has a heavy duty professional look with stainless steel knobs and pro handles. The oven offers true convection in the upper oven for precise airflow to allow multiple levels of cooking without flavor transfer and convection in the lower oven. Thermador also has the fastest pre-heat in the industry, around 7 minutes, as well as the fastest self-clean of about 2 hours. This oven offers a heavy duty rotisserie as well as a massive oven capacity, which is the largest in the industry.

Which Is Better?

Both the Wolf and Thermador double wall ovens are excellent. They both offer some unique and different features. Based on how you cook, and what features you use realistically use, may help you choose one over the other.

Features

Thermador has the faster pre-heat and self-cleaning. Wolf has more cooking modes for proofing breads and dehydrating fruits. I think their dual convection fans provide more consistent heat. From a feature standpoint, Wolf is better.

Promotions

Another deciding factor might be the promotions and rebates the company is offering at the time of purchase. Currently Thermador is offering a “One, Two, Free” promotion. Purchase a professional 36" or 48" range or a cooktop/rangetop plus a double wall oven and receive a free dishwasher (valued at 1,299.00). Add a refrigerator and receive any ventilation system FREE! This can be a great value for the customer building or remodeling their kitchen.

The Wolf promotion is also very enticing and it’s instant (no mail-in required). If you purchase Sub-Zero Refrigeration and a Wolf range or Sub-Zero refrigeration, a cooktop and single wall oven receive 1,000 off. In addition, selected items purchased from Sub-Zero and Wolf will earn another $250 savings.

Reliability

Both are incredibly reliable, and both excel after the sale with parts and expertise. Thermador is one of the most reliable brands in the industry. Wolf is not far behind.

As I write this, both manufacturers will be changing their products in the next 12 months with new technology. I like both for different types of people.
