New Miele HR1124 30 Inch Professional Gas Range (Reviews / Ratings / Prices)

So you are looking for a professional range? You have some pretty iconic names to choose: Wolf (better known as Sub-Zeros cooking company), Thermador (Bosch’s premium line), Jenn-Air (Whirlpool’s upscale line) as well as the rapidly imploding Viking Corp.

Miele has chosen a tough, competitive market. It’s another iconic brand in a very competitive field. Before we look at the product, let’s look at the company.

Miele

Miele is the largest family owned appliance company in the world. Their products are superbly engineered and produced. 96.8% of all the components in their dishwasher are produced internally. Such rigid control enables Miele to produce the most reliable appliances.

According to our own service numbers, Miele requires the least amount of service at just over 5% in the first year versus 20% for the industry average. The reliability resonates with consumers albeit at the very high end.

Should You Buy?

I like the range. The burners are powerful at 19,000 BTUs. It also features twin convection like Wolf and Jenn-Air for more even heating. It also has decent controls for an all gas range.

However, the price may be high when compared to Jenn-Air or Thermador at around $1,000 less plus a free dishwasher. It’s also $400 more expensive than even Wolf, which is a first.

Their own dual fuel range in my opinion may be more compelling with its GUI (like your phone) interface. It cooks most foods automatically and even has 16 different bread recipes (you can read the dual fuel review here). Their all gas has very basic controls.

Invariably, I think reliability will be crucial to sell this range. Yes, they are the most reliable brand. However, they sell mostly dishwashers and laundry. This is a brand new product and very different for the company.

It will be very interesting to see what happens.
