Last summer, I had some of the best freshly seasoned steaks while visiting my brother. My brother asked how I wanted mine cooked (medium) and went to work. It came out well done, but I didn’t have the heart to tell him and said it was perfect.

If only there was a way to make him as good of a cook as he thinks he is.

For “chefs” like my brother, Weber created their new Smart Grilling Hub.

The Smart Grilling Hub is designed to take someone who thinks their skill is greater than it is (his name is Dominick in case you care to avoid his cooking) and make their food as good as they think it is.

What Is The Weber Smart Grilling Hub?

The Weber Smart Grilling Hub is a temperature probe that connects to your phone. Unlike a regular temperature probe for your oven, this one gives you a lot more information to make sure you get your steak cooked exactly the way you want it.

Here is what it does differently:

  • Flip and Serve Notifications: Using the app on your phone, you’ll be alerted when it’s time to flip your steak or burger, and when it’s hit the perfect temperature
  • Select Doneness: Unlike my brother, you’ll cook your steak to the temperature you or your guests want it
  • Countdown and Timer: Count up with the timer or count down until it’s done. You decide
  • Step-by-Step Instructions: Turns a novice into a pro. This will help walk you through how to make the perfect steak if it’s your first time at a grill.
  • You Don’t Need a Weber: The Smart Hub works with your smartphone and any grill.

Does Weber’s Smart Grilling Hub Work?

The technology is not very complicated, so in theory, it should work well.

However, reading some of the reviews (we don’t have service info yet as this version is brand new), it’s not consistently reliable for Android phones.

Should You Buy The Weber Smart Grilling Hub?

It depends how comfortable with the technology. It is the modern version of a thermometer great for beginners and grill masters. With this tool, you’ll have a better idea of idea of doneness plus it will send you cooking alerts.

Another great plus side is you can use it with any BBQ grill

The only problem with the Smart Hub or any new piece of technology are the “bugs," a polite software term for issues.

Smart is the future of cooking without question.

The Smart Hub delivers a ton of value and can be and will be an amazing resource.

The only question is when.

A few review sites have placed this at the bottom of their articles. So here is our take: Our mission is to find reliable products for you to buy. Other review sites may say this as well.

However, we don’t love every product. Quite frankly, it costs us way too much money in repair costs to support less reliable brands.

In fact, we sell fewer brands than most appliance stores. Here is why:

We feel it is our responsibility to repair your appliances after you buy them.

We now have 30 service technicians, each averaging 8-10 calls a day Monday through Friday, plus another 110 on Saturday. That's over 30,000 service calls logged in one year.

The labor rates of fixing an appliance do not come close to the true cost in any product’s warranty period.

That is why no major retailer has a service department. It costs too much labor, money and time.

Our Blog is a bit different than most others you will read. We cannot write glowing reviews of unreliable products.

Hopefully, the bloggers and organizations who write such glowing product reviews for every brand consider servicing these products first. Only then they will understand the consequences of their marketing.
