For years, the popular lighting trend was to get pendant lights so small you could barely see them. Now, it is just the opposite.

Kitchens went from being small and efficient spaces to enormous living areas that include multiple locations for food preparation, dining and entertaining.

Homes are now boasting 10 foot ceiling heights, 9-10 foot islands, and dining tables seating 10-12 people are now the norm.

With that scale and decorating trends changing, the lighting industry has come 360 degrees in its latest designs.

Even in smaller spaces, you see one larger piece instead of a few smaller ones.

From industrial style to glamorous, large pendants are becoming the hottest way to add personal touches to your kitchen spaces. Let's look at a few examples.

Modern Style Kitchen Pendants

Tech Lighting has taken the art of blown glass pendants to a whole new level. At 16” diameter x 20” high, this is a great statement fixture.

Tech Lighting 'Quinton' Pendant

$736 - $760 (available in clear, smoke, and surf green)

Tech Lighting offers several styles of blown glass fixtures that are oversized. This shows several options for the glass colors as well.

Quoizel 'Ribbons' Pendant in Millenia

$556 (available in copper, and satin finishes)

Quoizel`s Ribbon`s collection is trendsetting and forward thinking at its finest. This collection was constructed to resemble a swirling pattern that is unique and captivating.

Classic Style Kitchen Pendants

Here is a classic “school house” inspired fixture from Hudson Valley Lighting. There are three sizes available and can be set to your desired height.

Hudson Valley 'Petersburg' Pendant

$215 - $342 (also available in old bronze, polished nickel, and satin nickel)

Feiss Lighting 'Corinne' Pendant in Polished Nickel

$459 (also available in oil rubbed bronze)

Hudson Valley 'Sweeny' Pendant

$1,070 in aged brass (also available in old bronze and polished nickel)

Transitional Style Kitchen Pendants

If you are after a more modern feel but have a classic style here are some transitional style large pendants.

Hudson Valley 'Burdett' Pendant

$590 (available in aged brass, old bronze, and polished nickel)

Hinkley 'Zelda' Pendant in Polished Nickel

Industrial Style Kitchen Pendants

If you have a more urban and industrial feel many manufactures are offering fixtures with a larger scale and industrial look.

On a very large scale, you do not need to use multiple fixtures over an island as in the past. One very large fixture can make a statement and still look great with the size of a large island.

Tech Lighting 'Artic Grande' Pendant

in gloss black/gold - $2,800 (available in gloss black/silver, gloss white/gold, gloss white/silver)

This Arctic Grande Pendant from Tech lighting introduces metallic finishes rich black shade and “Urban Style”.

At a price point of $2,800 you may think that is expensive. Many mini pendants were $400 - $600 each and the Arctic pendant is 44” in diameter.

Hubbardton Forge 'Erlenmyer' Pendant

$920 (available in six different finishes and sizes)

Handmade in Vermont, Hubbardton Forge has been known in the lighting industry for its classic and beautifully artistic fixtures.

Currey and Company 'Admiral' Pendant

in Copper/Antique Brass - $990

Eclectic Style Kitchen Pendants

If your taste and style are a little more eclectic here is a kitchen combining different woods, metal finishes, and textures.

Feiss 'Harrow' Pendant in Oil Rubbed Bronze

$180 - $500

These Feiss Lighting pendants add casual elegance and sparkle with seeded glass and polished nickel metal finish.

Uttermost 'Sabrina' Pendant

in Burnished Gold Metal - $426

Crystorama 'Broche' Pendant

in Antique Silver - $798 (also available in antique gold and english bronze)

Final Thoughts

Do not be afraid of breaking the rules or being unconventional. Style trends change and evolve through adventuresome people and if you like them, that’s all that matters. Your home should reflect your taste and personality.

A few review sites have placed this at the bottom of their articles. So here is our take: Our mission is to find reliable products for you to buy. Other review sites may say this as well.

However, we don’t love every product. Quite frankly, it costs us way too much money in repair costs to support less reliable brands.

In fact, we sell fewer brands than most appliance stores. Here is why:

We feel it is our responsibility to repair your appliances after you buy them.

We now have 30 service technicians, each averaging 8-10 calls a day Monday through Friday, plus another 110 on Saturday. That's over 30,000 service calls logged in one year.

The labor rates of fixing an appliance do not come close to the true cost in any product’s warranty period.

That is why no major retailer has a service department. It costs too much labor, money and time.

Our Blog is a bit different than most others you will read. We cannot write glowing reviews of unreliable products.

Hopefully, the bloggers and organizations who write such glowing product reviews for every brand consider servicing these products first. Only then they will understand the consequences of their marketing.
