New Trend: Big Pendants for Your Kitchen (Reviews/Ratings/Prices)

September 17th, 2015 | 2 min. read

For years, the popular lighting trend was to get pendant lights so small you could barely see them. Now, it is just the opposite.

Kitchens went from being small and efficient spaces to enormous living areas that include multiple locations for food preparation, dining and entertaining.

Homes are now boasting 10 foot ceiling heights, 9-10 foot islands, and dining tables seating 10-12 people are now the norm.

With that scale and decorating trends changing, the lighting industry has come 360 degrees in its latest designs.

Even in smaller spaces, you see one larger piece instead of a few smaller ones.

From industrial style to glamorous, large pendants are becoming the hottest way to add personal touches to your kitchen spaces. Let's look at a few examples.

Modern Style Kitchen Pendants

Tech Lighting has taken the art of blown glass pendants to a whole new level. At 16” diameter x 20” high, this is a great statement fixture.

Tech Lighting 'Quinton' Pendant

Industrial Style Kitchen Pendants

If you have a more urban and industrial feel many manufactures are offering fixtures with a larger scale and industrial look.

On a very large scale, you do not need to use multiple fixtures over an island as in the past. One very large fixture can make a statement and still look great with the size of a large island.

Tech Lighting 'Artic Grande' Pendant

in gloss black/gold - $2,800 (available in gloss black/silver, gloss white/gold, gloss white/silver)

This Arctic Grande Pendant from Tech lighting introduces metallic finishes rich black shade and “Urban Style”.

At a price point of $2,800 you may think that is expensive. Many mini pendants were $400 - $600 each and the Arctic pendant is 44” in diameter.

Hubbardton Forge 'Erlenmyer' Pendant

$920 (available in six different finishes and sizes)

Handmade in Vermont, Hubbardton Forge has been known in the lighting industry for its classic and beautifully artistic fixtures.

Currey and Company 'Admiral' Pendant

in Copper/Antique Brass - $990

Eclectic Style Kitchen Pendants

If your taste and style are a little more eclectic here is a kitchen combining different woods, metal finishes, and textures.

Feiss 'Harrow' Pendant in Oil Rubbed Bronze

$180 - $500

These Feiss Lighting pendants add casual elegance and sparkle with seeded glass and polished nickel metal finish.

Uttermost 'Sabrina' Pendant

in Burnished Gold Metal - $426

Crystorama 'Broche' Pendant

in Antique Silver - $798 (also available in antique gold and english bronze)

Final Thoughts

Do not be afraid of breaking the rules or being unconventional. Style trends change and evolve through adventuresome people and if you like them, that’s all that matters. Your home should reflect your taste and personality.
