Electrolux vs. Frigidaire Dishwashers (Reviews/Ratings/Prices)

It's hard picking a dishwasher from a store, any appliance store. You see rows of similar looking stainless products.

Miele and Bosch brought quiet and stylish dishwashers to the US. Now most major brands have all followed suit. Fortunately, we will evaluate two of these stainless products now, so your decision will be a bit easier.

Electrolux & Frigidaire

First, they are the same company.

Frigidaire is their value label, whereas Electrolux is their premium line. They offer very different products, except on dishwashers. Imagine visiting an Electrolux dishwasher factory. They can have two separate lines of dishwasher with different specs or they can have uniformity and cost savings with one dishwasher. Electrolux chose uniformity.

It’s a common occurrence in manufacturing, whether in cars (Buick/Chevy/Oldsmobile) or appliances like GE/Hotpoint or KitchenAid/Whirlpool/Jenn-Air are the same  products with different labels. It's cheaper for factories to have one product marketed several different ways.

However, both of these products are new and worth considering. In many ways, they can finally compete with Bosch and KitchenAid.

Which Would I Buy?

This particular comparison features the best Frigidaire dishwasher versus a moderate level Electrolux dishwasher. I chose to compare this Electrolux dishwasher as it is the best overall value.

Similarities

Wash System

The best selling point on these models is the wash system, Frigidaire’s “orbit clean” and Electrolux’s “satellite spray”. The technology is shared across brands and is designed to target hard-to-reach areas on the dishwasher to get the best cleaning possible. Both brands also offer an NSF Certified sanitize cycle and a 30 minute fast wash. I like the wash system even though quietness seems to be more important.

Fit and Finish

A stainless steel interior is more sanitary than a plastic interior because it is less porous. An adjustable top rack is great for fitting large platters on the bottom. Just simply raise the top rack to accommodate the needed height. Both models have a filter in the bottom to catch large food particles. This is an advantage over a food grinder because it is quieter.

The design of these models is also great. Hidden controls with a bar handle has been a very popular trend. There is an indicator light on the floor that lets you know that the dishwasher is running.

Subtle Differences

Wash System

Electrolux offers target wash zones to target hard-to-clean items like water bottles. The Electrolux wash system is quieter at 47 dBA, the Frigidaire is louder at 49 dBA.

Fit and Finish

Electrolux has a regular stainless finish whereas Frigidaire has a smudgeproof stainless finish. Smudgeproof stainless steel does not match regular stainless, therefore Frigidaire products look best in a Frigidaire kitchen.

Smudgeproof is appealing to young families and environments where finger prints are a concern. I think that the Frigidaire model is a great value dishwasher. Electrolux offers more high-end features such as a third rack for cutlery to accommodate a wider variety of utensils.

Conclusion

Both are very similar, because they are, in fact, the same. I like the Electrolux, because the finish will match your stainless in addition to being quieter as well as having the specialized water bottle spray. However, both are decent and compelling at the $699 price versus the industry heavyweights KitchenAid and the Bosch brands.
