We are starting to publish answers to questions about service issues.

Many people ask whether they should fix or replace an older appliance and our service techs will be answering the question by product type.

Basic Dishwasher Operation

Dishwashers are rather simple from a service aspect: they fill, wash, drain and heat, so the issues should be simple to diagnose. Dishwashers operate accordingly:

  • Drain: 15-30 seconds to drain any residual water
  • Fill: Fill with replacement water for 90 seconds
  • Wash: Circulation motor will operate for 12-15 minutes and will repeat up to 8 times in a normal cycle
  • Heat: Usually the heating element will activate in the last 6 cycles

Dishwasher Troubleshooting

Time to Service

Dishwashers in need of door latch, drain pumps, fill valves, door seals, soap dispensers, pressure switches are all generally worth repairing.

Control panels are worth an estimate depending on the dishwasher.

Schedule Appliance Repair

Time for new purchase

Circulation pumps and motors are expensive and usually not worth repairing. Most wash motors/electronics (out of warranty) generally can exceed $400-$600 with trip, labor, and parts costs. So do not spend money on a repair to any major part of a dishwasher.

New dishwashers have remained steady or even decreased in costs, whereas parts and service have increased over the last decade.

Appliances now have an average life of 6-10 years down from 8-12. New energy efficient technology and the outsourcing of parts has increased cost of servicing an appliance and decreased the average lifespan.
