A Review of Jenn-Air vs KitchenAid Dishwashers

We have posted KitchenAid vs Bosch in terms of our best selling brands, but KitchenAid vs Jenn-Air is more interesting.

Jenn-Air and KitchenAid have similar stories.  KitchenAid was purchased by Whirlpool in the 1980s by Hobart.  Hobart was primarily a commercial dishwasher manufacturing company, but had recently purchased Chambers company for cooking.  The original KitchenAid dishwasher tub was porcelain before Whirlpool invested in stainless

JennAir was originally an independent company manufacturing mostly downdrafts.  They were also purchased by Maytag who relabelled the porcelain Maytag dishwashers with the Jenn-Air logo.  When the moribund Maytag company was sold to Whirlpool in 2003, Whirlpool changed the dishwasher to all stainless

As it turns out, they share more in common than a tub

Let's look:

Features:

• Both are integrated
• Both have stainless inside and outside
• Both have the same features

Similar features include:  Disposer/shredder ring, sani rinse and adjustable rack as well as cycles

The difference: The KitchenAid has an adjustable top rack and a price premium of $500 (must be a gold covered rack). They are similar, because Jenn-Air and KitchenAid are the same dishwasher.

As I first wrote this in 2011, you want to buy whichever is cheaper or in a package buy the one with the similar handles and better overall rebates
