Jenn-Air vs GE Profile Microwave/Wall Ovens

GE Profile

Thomas Edison founded the Edison General Electric Company in 1890. During that time there was one major competitor to his company. In 1892 the Thomas Edison Company merged with The Thomson-Houston Company to form The General Electric Company. Several of their early business offerings are still part of GE today, including lighting, transportation, industrial products, power transmission, and medical equipment. They are also involved with airplane engines as well as being a financing company. The first GE Appliances (electric fans) were produced at the Ft. Wayne electric works as early as the 1890s, while a full line of heating and cooking devices were developed in 1907. Profile is the upscale appliance version of GE.

Jenn-Air

Jenn-Air manufactures luxury kitchen appliances known for their sophistication, innovative technology and exceptional performance. The original Jenn-Air Products Company was founded by Louis J. Jenn in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1947. They later changed their name to Jenn-Air. In 1961 Jenn-Air invented its most well known product to date, the down draft cooktop. However, Jenn-Air has been repositioned by its parent Whirlpool with a 300 million dollar investment specifically in wall ovens and professional cooking. Let's see if the investment actually paid off.

Microwave/Wall Ovens

Wall oven microwave combinations can be a great way to save space and still have some great features. Many wall oven microwave combos can have a convection oven in the microwave. This can act as a second oven for a lot of recipes. While you can’t bake a cake in these microwaves, they are great for cooking other dishes such as chicken breasts and roasting vegetables.

Summary

Both are very decent ovens, but there are some differences.

Jenn-Air is actually a speed oven and not just a convection microwave like the GE Profile. They feature a microwave element, a convection element and fan, as well as a broiling element. This allows for a better cooking experience. You can combine all three of these technologies in their speed cooking mode for much faster cooking.

If we look at the wall oven section of these units we will also notice some differences between the two brands. The GE and Jenn-Air have similar capacity at 4.5 cubic foot. Jenn-Air, however, has dual fan convection so it will spread more heat and cook more evenly than a single convection oven.

The controls are also a huge difference. Jenn-Air has the Culinary Center, which are the most simple, intuitive controls in the industry. It is preprogrammed to the most popular dishes and recipes.

As I said both products and companies are good, but with the recent 300 million dollar investment specifically in this oven (and pro ranges) Jenn-Air is a better and more updated product.
