Gas ranges have become more powerful over the years. Almost every decent range will have at least one professional style burner with a 15,000 BTU equivalent or higher. At the same time, you do not have spend a ton of money to buy one.

The basic Frigidaire has 5 burners and a 17,000 BTU burner. Whirlpool has two power burners rated at 15,500 BTU. The Frigidaire at $819 has convection, which is a better baking mode.

The less expensive Bosch are actually manufactured by Frigidaire, but have really compelling package rebates. The HGS7052UC has European (third element) convection as well as a warming drawer.

Slide-In ranges do not have a backguard, so they are aesthetically better in islands or are generally cleaner looking than freestanding ranges. Frigidaire has a decent basic slide-in. The Jenn-Air is really nice with two power burners, convection and warming drawer. Electrolux has 5-burners, two ovens and a gaggle of cooking modes.
