Frigidaire Vs. GE Monogram 18-Inch Dishwashers (Reviews/Ratings/Prices)

November 13th, 2012 | 1 min. read

By Steve Sheinkopf

Eighteen-inch dishwashers are widely sold in Boston. GE Monogram and Frigidaire, along with Bosch and Miele are the manufacturers of this niche product. Although you would think the opposite, an 18-inch dishwasher actually has the same or better features as the best 24 inch products. 18-inch dishwashers are also more widely sold in Europe and every European dishwasher is designed differently than the traditional American brands.

GE Monogram

GE is one of the oldest appliance companies. Thomas Edison created the company in 1879 with the 1st light bulb. Since then the company has expanded into many different endeavors including appliances. GE Monogram is their best luxury appliance line. Their 18-inch dishwasher is quiet and is all stainless on the inside unlike 90% of the regular GE and GE Profile products.

Frigidaire

For over 85 years, Frigidaire continues to improve home appliances for everyday living. They created the first electric refrigerator, and stackable laundry. After languishing in the 1970s and 80s, Frigidaire was purchased by Electrolux in the 1990s and retooled their production. The quality was improved considerably (a lesson Electrolux should have learned when they outsourced their refrigeration to Mexico).

Their 18-inch dishwasher is one of their best with stainless steel on the inside and plenty of cycles including high temperature wash. In fact there is only one other dishwasher in their whole line with similar features.

Frigidaire vs GE Monogram 18-Inch Dishwashers

Frigidaire FFBD1821MS$649.99

  • Airs dry only
  • Stainless Steel Interior
  • China & Crystal
  • Easy to read control panel
  • High Temperature Wash
  • ADA Compliant
  • Manual cleaning filter

GE Monogram ZBD1870NSS - $1,149

  • Sleek hidden control
  • 7 cleaning cycles
  • Stem holder for securing wine glasses
  • Air dry, and heated dry
  • ADA compliant
  • Manual cleaning filter

Both are great dishwashers. Both have stainless tanks and plenty of features. I like them both and their repair records of GE and Frigidaire are similar (Frigidaire is better by 2%).

But I can't ignore the price. Frigidaire is $649 and Monogram is $1,149. At $1,149, you can buy a Miele or Bosch, so look at the Frigidaire because I don't see a compelling reason to spend $500 more.
