The Best Freestanding and Slide-In Gas Ranges (Reviews/Ratings)

September 12th, 2012 | 2 min. read

By Steve Sheinkopf

Gas ranges have really improved over the years. First the BTU (British Thermal Unit measure of heat) have really increased from 12,000 to up to 20,000 BTUs in regular ranges. At least one burner will be the same or greater as a professional range.

The second feature is convection or fan forced heat for a more even heat distribution in the oven. Convection can be regular with the fan assisting separate heating elements or the technically better third element behind the fan.

Last is the warming drawer. Separate warming drawers can cost as much as $1,500, but are included in the higher end ranges. Warmers can maintain food for up to 3 hours or refresh leftovers without dehydrating food.

Every month we publish a recommended list based on brands, relative value and rebates. This changes monthly depending on new product introductions, buying opportunities and rebates.

The difference between freestanding and slidein ranges is the position of the controls.  Slidein ranges have the controls in the front without the backguard, so you are able to see the backsplash.  Read Freestanding Vs Slidein ranges for more information
