Miele vs Whirlpool in laundry is a comparison between two very different brands with two very good, but different machines.
Whirlpool: Whirlpool is the largest American manufacturer of appliances located in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Their pedigree has always been laundry, and Whirlpool produces more laundry than any manufacturer in the world. About 12 years ago, they launched their high efficiency Duet washer and dryer in the United States. The Duet was successful due to its large size as well as its water and energy efficiency. It also works. At that time, their competitor, Maytag, had huge problems with their Neptune front load laundry.
Miele: Miele is owned by the Miele family. Current CEO is Dr. Marcus Miele, and their products are exclusively manufactured in Germany. Product quality is their mission. Miele outsources almost nothing. They even manufacture the components and controls. They have always marketed small, 24 inch laundry for the European market. About 6 years ago, Miele started building larger laundry for the American market.

Two different companies produce two uniquely different, yet viable machines.
- Price: $3,200 for Miele and $2,100 for the Whirlpool
- Features: In many ways, the machines are similar. Both have a heat boost for washing whites and a higher spin speed for pre-drying clothes. Whirlpool has two different features. The fan setting on the washer will keep the washer tumbling with no heat for up to 6 hours after the cycle is over, so your clothes will not become moldy. There is also a steam setting for the dryer. Steam is used for refreshing and dewrinkling clothes. It can also be used for pre-treating tough stains.
- Stacking: Both Whirlpool's and Miele's compact laundry units are stackable. With more new homes and apartments placing laundry on second floors or in closets, this is good advantage for both.
- Intangibles: Miele manufactures the best constructed laundry on the planet. It is built for 25 year life due to the quality of components. The drum is double stamped and honeycomb shaped, so the clothes are supported by the water not the drum. In fact, Miele is the only laundry capable of washing silks and other fine washables.
